Yes, I must make sure it's updated to include the current owners of the Hepolite car, and 019!

The full TWR list is also in the archive thread a bit further down the page.

I have written a full list of the cars history & whereabouts with Dave Puzey. I also had a meeting with Andy Morrison, my ex team manager at TWR & we also did a list of all the cars & we are also doing a list races each individual car competed in.

Your full history and whereabouts list sounds great ken, I hope you will be kind enough to share that with us in due course? It will add to the TWR chassis list that Dave provided following your help previously.

Researching and discussing the various cars has been highly enjoyable for myself, KA and the various Group A enthusiasts on here and has also brought some new posters to the site, including some who were actually involved in the period which has been a real bonus for the likes of me who started the whole thread off.

I think that when one starts off a sort of history quest like this, one doesn't really know how it will go because you are relying on peoples memories, anecdotes and pictures from long time past etc. When an engineer like yourself or a former driver or team owner, or a current owner/driver contributes it makes it quite worthwhile!

Hi all,

Is there anyone here that may be able to identify the maker/ supplier of some original Group A Rover (likely ex-TWR car) dampers? I have a set on my car and they are unmarked apart from a serial number and bump/ rebound settings.

I can send photos, and any help is greatly appreciated.

Right then, several hours later and the rally discussions have been split into a separate thread at long last!

Nice work! That's probably needed doing for a while, as the thread was getting a bit big and unweildy, and the race and rally cars are two separate strands of discussion I guess

Thanks, I'd been meaning to do it for some time and finally got round to it. Must've been a case of bees in SD1 sized bonnets or something like that?

One day I'll split the race thread into Gr1 and GrA perhaps too.

Hi, they should be inverted style (i.e. upside down, piston fitted to bottom of tube and chromed shock body sliding in bronze bushes) fitted in special strut tubes, supplied by Bilstein and readily available. they were also used on Grp1 cars with the standard spring pan welded on to the threaded tube and wedge plates added for support, can be seen on 1981 Grp1 Homologation Papers

Corliss,

Thanks for the confirmation - I am 99% sure we are talking about the same thing. Our struts are the same as the ones in your picture (albeit not as clean) and the dampers look the same (as below).

Is that a Getrag transmission next to them as well? Ours is a dogleg 1st Getrag Grp A 'box - another ex-TWR item I am guessing?

Don't think we've seen these in the thread before- Rover pics from Mike Hayward

A mixture of 1984 TT, and 1981 and 83 British GP support BTCC rounds
http://www.mikehaywardcollection.com/search/rover

Using 'Rover' as a search term doesn't bring all of the Rover pics up (but does find a couple of Frank Lockhart's Rover Special), however these links should find the rest.

Double-click on the thumbnails to get them individually, from where you can view them at a decent size, albeit watermarked to protect the photographer's copyright.

That's quite a good selection of Daily Express and PMG 3500's there, battling with various Capris.

Another mystery- I've asked the question on the relevant NZ touring car races 1985/6 thread, but thought it was worth a copy here. Found some interesting pics on the NZ 'Roaring Season' forum, including some shots of the TWR entries at the Nissan Mobil 500 races- think I posted links to some of these a few pages back, but there was something else interesting- a copy of the programme from the meeting at Manfeild, 11/12 Jan '86.
http://www.theroaringseason.com/atta...3&d=1329716552

Looking down the entry list, we've got most of the usual suspects from the NZ races at that time, Denny Hulme in the black/gold AC&B Commodore, the Petch/Francevic Volvo, David Oxton in the ex-Rouse XR4Ti, various ex-UK 635s that arrived in NZ & Australia via Frank Sytner, a couple of ex-BTCC Escort RS1600is and so on, but there's one entry on that list which is definitely a new one on me-

#44, Tim Taylor, Entrant, T.A. Taylor, Rover SD1 Vitesse

http://www.theroaringseason.com/atta...4&d=1329716764

That's the first mention I've seen of a New Zealand-based Rover, rather than a visiting entry from either TWR or the Tim Slako car. Anyone know any more about this one?

Actually, looking back, I might not have posted links to the 1985 Welllington pics I just mentioned, so here we are- pics by Martin Smith:

I've had a look through all my NZ race programmes from '84 to '87 without finding another mention of the car or driver anywhere. The brief Auto Action report on the Jan'86 Manfeild race doesn't mention the car either.

Thanks Malcolm, so sounds like this might be a one-off entry that didn't show up at Manfeild, or anywhere else- Could it have been a deal to lease someone else's car for a one-off race that fell through?

Having said that, apart from TWR's visits, Group A Rovers weren't exactly common in the Southern Hemisphere, so the number of potential candidates for any leased Rover is pretty small- I can only think of the Slako car, John Donnelly's car in Australia (which IIRC hadn't debuted at this date) and the British-entered production car at Bathurst '85.

Did we ever clear up what happened to the 'Flexible Hose Supplies' (the Rouse-built ex-Pete Hall ICS production saloon) car after Bathurst- did it come back to the UK, or was it sold on in Australia?
http://homepage.mac.com/frank_de_jon...th-1985-16.jpg

Incidentally, while we're talking about Rovers 'down under', just found this piece about the Rover Bathurst entries on an Australian Rover blog.
Some of the pics are familiar, but I don't think I've seen those of #61 at the Sydney Motor Show before...

I think it has been mentioned somewhere that the Tim Slako Vitesse was leased for some New Zealand action at one time. Though, can't remember it very specific, and I can't put any name to the possible leasing driver.

Yes, Winston Wrigley and Ian 'Inky' Tulloch leased the pink car from Tim Slako for a number of NZ races in Nov/Dec 86, plus the Nissan-Mobil 500 rounds in Jan/Feb 87
http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/img051-1.jpg

I've never seen any reference to the car making the trip for the Nissan-Mobil series, or any other NZ races at the end of 1985/beginning of 1986 though.

I have the Rover 3.5 engine block and the Getrag gearbox from the BL Motorsport "Golden Wonder" Vitesse.

The Getrag Gearbox is unused since being overhaulled by R&D Motorsport.

Am having a clearout, can anyone advise the best place to sell the above?

Thanks

From a nice colletion of 1987 TT pics by 'Karting Nord' (Martin Lee) on Flickr. It's good to see these- There's another collection from the same TT by Richard Hilsden on Flickr, which have already been mentioned in several of the Group A threads....As I remember, I was too busy sheltering from the rain in the Woodcote grandstand to be taking any pics...
