In other car news, this is the new 2017 Honda Civic. I can imagine it will look great in BTCC form...

Its a far better overall shape, more conventional.

In terms of the "styling", again, I think the front looks fine, fairly conventional, however its the usual Honda Civic madness at the back.

"There are 30 permanent TBL's in the hands of the teams and all these will be used this season."

That's Gow on the official forum. So maybe we will get a "full" entry.

Well that's if all the plans come off, but it could well happen. I believe 888 may of Cooked up a good story when they said they had their drivers signed, they might of been signed subject to funds so the driver/s may of been negotiating elsewhere still It now looks like it's set so a few more pieces may fall into place shortly

I can't decide if it would be funny or sad if a 'manufacturer' failed to fill their available seats.

IT would simply illustrate the sad state of finance in our sport today. As I have commented before, very few teams, none in some sectors, seek team sponsors that would allow them to chose their drivers on ability.

MG are not a wealthy company but BTCC has done more than anything to promote the marque in recent years. It seems that as long as drivers can be found with sufficient budget MG will let them pay the bills. I know it is a lot of money but if they gave Ian Harrison £500k he could do some good deals, £1 million would allow him to pay small retainers and get top pilots. For me it would be good use of a what is probably a modest sales promotion budget

According to a news release MG saw a big increase in sales in 2014 and whilst the total was a modest 2,400 or so much of that could reasonably be credited to the excellent promotion Plato and Tordoff gave them at 888. The same press piece says they would hope to have 80 dealers by the end of 2015 and so perhaps a "Dealer Team" approach could be used. Say £100 per car sold from the dealer and a matching figure from MG, that would give 888 the budget to chose drivers.

Dream on!!!

I wouldn't be so sure on that, all the provisional entry lists still have Welch as running the Proton. Though some of Mr Wheel's info certainly seems to add up, I'd question some of it

I'd be willing to bet money on the 888 lineup - suspect it'll be Josh Cook and Ash Sutton (Ash with his BMR links, surely this is a dead cert? He's not confirmed in Clios as yet and has not been out testing, his seat with BMR/Pyro taken by Senna Proctor).

At the Snetterton test today and saw the Avensis of Smiley out. Smiley drove most of the test with Gilham driving a couple of laps too. As team boss, not necessarily surprising.

I think that would be quite a wise bet and I'd join you in putting some money on it!

It would be interesting to see what Gilham thought of the 'new' car compared to the one he raced at the end of last year.

So the seven seats that aren't announced yet are:

3rd Eurotech
2nd Team HARD (Driver has been signed but not announced)
Both MGs (Drivers signed but not announced)
2nd PMR
AmD
Welch

And we have some drivers:

Josh Cook
Jake Hill
Aron Smith
Ash Sutton
Dan Welch

So there are at least two unknowns.

You can add Richard Hawken to the list and Andy Wilmot & James Dodd were looking at getting on the grid for this year but the latter 2 have been very quiet recently!

I believe Pastor Maldonado is not doing much these days, although he probably won't have the budget for BTCC now that Venezuela is broke but he would be used to the close contact racing style of BTCC.
