Very hard to see it going ahead, sadly.

This COVID hysteria is ridiculous. I think the ICGT concept is dead now. Thats a wrap on the 2021 season folks :-(
Wonder if a race like the Gulf 12h could gain some entries now because of Kyalami getting dropped. |

Its never ending isnt it? This is our lives until we die now. Not sure whos making all the money but it isnt us "ordinary" folk who are seeing our lives revolve around getting up, going to work, going to sleep, going to work 24/7, 365.

Honestly the best chance of this event occurring is likely that this variant will have already spread around the world in the next few weeks and going to South Africa will be no different than going anywhere else at that point. I really don't think no matter how many lockdowns we do we are going to stop viruses from spreading it just is what it is.

It might impact travel to/from the US for the Roar/Rolex in a couple of weeks as well.

I thought postponements were over. This really was the worst year to make a motorsport calendar app.

We seem to be going back into panic mode. Winter was likely to be difficult anyway given the additional pressures. Even before this new variant half of Europe was bringing back restrictions. In that climate an international race in SA in early Feb feels very optimistic. I’m not confident about Bathurst either.
I’m not making a judgement on the reaction to the variant or the decisions of Govts, just looking at the mood music and I’m not feeling good vibes. I hope I am wrong, not least because I have trips to Daytona and Sebring booked. |

Bathurst 12 Hours postponed to the 13-15 May.
Not a bad thing, it was a little too close to Kyalami anyway, and this way theres a better chance of a good grid |

The problem now is that the event will clash with about one million other races on the same weekend, or the weekend before or after. GT World Challenge @ Magny Cours ELMS @ Imola IMSA @ Mid Ohio and to a lesser extent: Formula E @ Berlin |

I imagine they will cut their loses on ELMS and IMSA clashes, unless this race is before or after the european season there will undoubtedly be clashes. My guess is that simply less European teams will be able to attend the races, the transport requirements are too long, so it only really allows teams with a spare car that they can ship off for a few months during the busiest part of the season to attend from Europe. |

Only 14 cars for Kyalami. I hope things are more normal come the end of the year.

Qualifying and superpole cancelled due to a deluge.
This race really can't catch a break... |

It really needs to happen at a different time of year to avoid the rain but the northern hemisphere calendar probably wouldn't allow it.

It seems weird not having any Porsche presence in the 9 Hours on top of the fact that Porsche owns Kyalami.

It's going to be an extremely pitiful sight, not a race.
