The Australian Cheetahs were made by Brian Shead in a suburb of Melbourne. They were nearly all Racing/Formula cars, but there was also a clubman.

Amaroo Mystery Car
Back to the mystery car in the Amaroo pitlane - 1983
On the Autopics website there is a photo #84510 of the car advertised For Sale in Racing Car News September 1984. The driver of the car #10 is Craig Gibbs - the photo dated 8th July 1984 - at Amaroo Park. Last edited by motorfoto; 11 Dec 2007 at 22:31. |

And at $14.95 to send him an e-mail, I think we need to contact Craig by some other method of communication !

Thanks
That would be great.
Can you ask him about that car in the photo at Amaroo Park - does he recall it's history - who did he sell it too - is it the same car advertised in RCN For Sale. And direct him to Allen Brown's Cheetah website if he is curious why anyone would care about what happened 23 years ago - !!! |

Further research is indicating that the Amaroo Park mystery car may have started out as the car first built for Mike Stack, but more information is needed to be sure.

I have'nt contacted Gibbsy yet but a little research and the car was run by Ezio Sanelli in 86 with Ford power. I reckon this was the car Sam Astuti ran in 87 and 88 as it had very similar bodywork...
Vince Mclaughlan is a customer of mine so i will ask him if he can add more.... Race reports say the Beehag Mk7 ex Hocking went to Tony Armstrong..... Last edited by Amonfan; 18 Dec 2007 at 09:25. |

If 62-9 went to Tom Crozier for the 85/86 AF2 Championship, what happened to Tom Crozier's Mk7 (72-2) delivered in 1980 ?.

Was it a mk7 copy? I thought it may have been a modified mk7. The front springs are outboard compared to the inboard mk7, the rear wing is different and so is the hoop, but otherwise it looks very similar. Same body work, same nose, same steering rack location etc. |

Car #55 was raced at Morgan Park back in August 2007 by Lee Falkner.
Perhaps Kevin Lewis has sold the CRD. I had a close look at it at Morgan Park - certainly uses a lot of slightly modified Mk7 Cheetah bodywork. Does anyone know the story behind the "Tudor" F2 car that Ian Richards ran in 1979. Auto Action reported it as a "Tudor - nee Cheetah" !. Richards went on to build his own car a win the F2 Championship some years later, but he obviously started by modifying Cheetahs to his own designs. |

Another mystery
In a 1979 RCN is a report that the "Charles Jardine" Cheetah was sold to Frank Burke.
Now I can't see either of these names in any of the Cheetah history on Old Racing Cars ?. Does anyone know if Charles Jardine or Frank Burke are still about in motor racing ?. |

Not Charles...
No, my brother Rob and I owned a Cheetah but it was wallpapered in a magnificent design – never owned a black one.
Wilson’s Wallpaper were our sponsors. Best Regards, Charles Jardine Festival of Sporting Cars www.fosc.com.au |
