It makes sense to do both - I suspect that Prodrive is now making money out of its GT1/2/3/4 programme and Jag could do the same. But to get the headlines then overall victories are needed

Who's gonna run the program? Has it been said yet? TWR?

No. But reportedly people from Apex were at Le Mans.

Also if the trend towards vertical integration of rules for national series through to Regional and possibly world wide series continues then there may well be a market. The fact that one platform can be adaptable to several categories will bring down development costs. If AM, Ferrari, Porsche,Corvette etc can do it, why not Jaguar? |

Marin Birrane makes an interesting point perhaps connected to this in the current Motor Sport - where he describes the demise of Reynard in Champ Car as being bad news for Lola - in that competition keeps the business going.
Competition, so long as you're there or thereabouts will drive a quest for the next big thing - upgrades to aero packages, suspension etc - which is good news for manufacturers, whereas in an absence of multiple suppliers there is perhaps less incentive to invest in enhancements on quite such a regular basis. |

Anyone know if the rumoured ALMS GT2 Jaguar's are developed GT3 XKR's or full GT2's?

Jaguar doesn't have a sports car any more than does BMW. IMO, a good GT program will support (improve its rather lousy present image) very nicely, and an LMP program would be a complete waste of time and money, on a par (though somewhat less expensive) with that goofy excursion into F1. |

GT2 is a nice start, but Jaguar's heritage is based on overall Le Mans wins.
The F1 debacle was rediculous the moment it was announced with stories about a 'sea of green' at Silverstone. Ferrari commands that support in F1, Jaguar has a similar fanatical following at Le Mans, support for the brand dwarfs everyone but Porsche. The new owners have given the go ahead for an even hotter XKR, a re-imagining of the F-Type, and hot version's of the new saloons. A GT2/3 program is a great start, especially if they can muscle in on the customer market currently dominated by Porsche and Ferrari. Longer term, a shot at the overall win has to be the ultimate goal, whether that's with a full factory effort, branding a Lola or such, or just offering a P1 customer engine. Jaguar are still dining out on those Le Mans wins, i.e. the '88 celebration's, associated videos etc., not the ETCC or Group 44 E-Type/XJS success's. Last edited by JAG; 3 Dec 2008 at 17:09. |

According Radio Le Mans Jaguar will enter GT2 class of ALMS. Announcement at Detroit show in January. Hindy has spoken to two different people who each think they have the contract to design and run the cars! One of them is Paul Gentilozzi, the other a UK company. A third party, also a UK, company has offered Jaguar a fully funded proposal to design and run the cars.
Midweek Motorsport: Series 3 - Episode 40 (at 1h 44m) In this show also an interview with Gil de Ferran. What I already assumed it looks like Rubens Barrichello will drive for de Ferran at Sebring. |

Tata is asking for UK government help with JLR. I suspect a motorsport programme is a low priority.

Still a dodgy area for HMG to stick a toe into. Supporting a UK LUXURY brand, owned by an Indian multinational, with a sponsorship deal for Ferrari in F1???
This being an allegedly LEFT wing Labour government... I doubt they will offer anything to Tata. But I've been wrong before! |
