Had a very heavy coming together with the retaining wall, the no.12 tapped him into a spin and he went backwards into the wall rupturing the fuel cell. Very spectacular and caused a red flag! He walked away unhurt!

I think he done extremely well in his first cup race considering it was his first race with guys that had been racing all year! Including the last 10 weeks in succession.

It was pretty worrying really at first....it was some first crash that's for sure

14th in the Busch race and it looked like he would get a good NEXTEL finish too......would have been interesting to see where he ended up.

Roll on next season. Can't wait for Daytona.

I watched the channel 5 highlights this morning. It would appear that either Montoya or Mears (the commentary team wasn't sure which) was involved in an incident with the no.12 Newman car a little earlier, causing him to spin and pit. So it looks as though it could have been a bit of good ol' boys retribution from Newman that led to JPM's heavy crash at the end of the straight.

It's hard to see how well he was running on those highlight shows and he certainly wasn't mentioned much, 1 lap down but hanging onto Mears was a pretty good debut.
