The series is open to more or less anything with covered wheels. Lammers and vd Merwe finished 2nd overall in the Killarney 9 Hrs in a Ginetta G55 GT4, for example. Two unique LMP2s have run in the series so far: Pilbeam MP100 and Bailey LMP2.
Not sure about growth plans but SRO have mentioned an aspiration to run in SA, so maybe something will happen there. Maybe not. |

Mitsubishi Electric is a sponsor. Calm down.
Another write up here including Lammers interview. http://www.dailymaverick.co.za/artic.../#.VnJgh-inxDt |

PS: Greg Mills, who wrote that Daily Maverick piece and co-drove with Lammers and vd Merwe, is the man (money) behind the Pilbeam MP100. I wonder if this Ginetta appearance is significant. A G57 would make a great addition to the series...

Seems unlikely. It was thoroughly spanked by the Junos and it has a very limited future in any ACO series. I'm sure it would still be eligible for this series though because anything goes (hallelujah!).

It would likely still be eglible in this series even in 2067 post-WW3 nuclear fallout period, but I think the real aspiration for them was Le Mans (no matter how pipe dream and slowly targeted) which is now axed away by greed. Here in Africa only, thy might as well just run vehicles cheaper to run
The Pilbeam could've been oneoff entry for the hypothetical Kyalami WEC too btw |

For some reason I really love the Pilbeam LMP2 car. Maybe it's the little chassis that could? Hope to see it back someday.

Does anyone think GT3 race cars will start to pop up in this series?

Out of curiosity, are Trans-Am style cars (common in South Africa through the Wesbank series) allowed in the African Endurance Series, and if so would they be capable of chasing wins? |

Not sure about Trans Am type cars. But the 2015 series regs say this:
1.1. The Africa Endurance Series is open by invitation to all Saloons, Sports & GT and Sports Racing closed wheel cars complying with 2015 technical regulations as published by MSA, or the FIA in the case of LMP1 & LMP2 cars and GTE-Pro and GTE-Am. So if it runs in a Motorsport South Africa series and has covered wheels it could get in. They would need to fit some working lights though... Looking at a typical entry list it looks like they would take just about anything. |

South-Africa will get a touring car series based on the MARC cars. Altough the S-A cars will have smaller engines the cars itself have proven themself in endurance racing.

Any news on this series? I haven't seen any news lately and the website hasn't been updated either.

Seems to be lots of offroad stuff these days. Big presence in the Dakar. Not sure about the health of circuit racing generally.
Good news for the van der Linde family though. 2014 ADAC GT Masters champion Kelvin is back in the series this year, sharing an Audi with Christopher Haase, and younger brother Sheldon is driving in the TT Cup. |

Do you see any 2015 spec P2's or even DP's make their way into the series given the new IMSA/ACO rules next year? Or are they too expensive for the relatively young series?

I really don't know but it seems unlikely to me. Even the homegrown Pilbeam and Bailey LMP2s have stopped running. Would love to be proved wrong though.

South African Endurance Championship
A new name, championship status and some exciting new cars for 2017. There will also be a GT3 cup, which I guess would tie in with SRO's plans for a big race in 2018 or 2019.
And live streaming! http://www.endurance-info.com/en/mop...2017-calendar/ |
