And from V8 Supercars:

Quote:
It was sad to have learned that Mark Porter passed away shortly after today’s Bathurst race.

Our greatest sympathies and all of our wishes are with the family, in particular Mark’s wife Adrienne and son Flynn.

As a group we will do absolutely everything we can to support them at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with the family of David Clark who continues to show positive signs at Nepean Hospital.

We ask that all members of the media respect the privacy of the family and do not contact them at this time.

We will not be making any further comment at this time.

Wow.....

Watching it on friday I knew it was bad..... but wow...

The fact that this happened the EXACT MONTH (nearly to the hour as well) that we lost Peter makes it worse....

This will sound incredibly cruel, but I've nursed Quadraplegics when I did aged care, and to echo what Bev Brock said last month, "probably best this way..."

What I do hope is that the media does not jum on this and demand changes. This was a freak, if not considerably possible, accident, and could have happened in any class with the same circumstances.

I know we've all made some pretty larger than life suggestions with regards to Brocky, but considering that Mark made a huge contribution to the smaller class, would it not be apt to call the Development Series trophy the Mark Porter Cup?

That I believe is a great idea Senna05... And I sure do not hope that because of this they want changes to the Series, the cars (unless it makes them safer without slowing them down) or Bathurst.

The announcement was made by the family. They could indeed have kept it quiet - maybe they thought Mark would have wanted that way - I just don't see how VESA would have anything to do with it once, the medical services took Mark to the hospital.

A sad way to end the day though, I had a good feeling he'd pull through.

When I first saw the accident I had a flashback to the Greg Hansford crash many years ago. The final result for Porter is now the same. A very sad day.

Unbelievable news...

Not only a kiwi, a talented driver and a nice bloke, but also a young father...

I had a feeling that Tony Cochrane may of known his fate this morning just by the way he spoke to TV1 veteran Geoff Bryan and mentioned that this had never happened for 12 years...

Let this be a reminder that motorsport is dangerous. My sincere condolences to the whole Porter family at this hard time in their lives.

When I saw the accident and the resulting damage to his car I counldn't help but think the worst.

You always hold out hope of a miracle but unfortunately Mark wasn't granted one.

R.I.P Mark and condolances to his family.

A tragedy that he was taken from them at such a young age.

I've removed some of the more lurid speculation which is both inappropriate and unfair on the family of Mark Porter. I understand that some will think there is a conspiracy over the timing, and I understand even more that any decisions will have fully respected the opinions and sensiblities of the medics and Mark's family. I really don't imagine that V8 organisers could have much sway over that even if they wanted to.

It is normal in this kind of incident to take time to fully asses the patient's condition and work with the relatives and the medical information. The timing of the announcement will obviously have been carefully considered, but I'd be more surprised if not.

So keep it polite, guys, and if you can't prove it, please don't post it.

RIP Mark, and deepest sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues.

This afternoon I had been waiting for the post that said Mark had come out of his coma. I was so confident that he would make it.
Please let this be the last tradgedy for this year. I couldn't take another one.
My most sincere condolences to all his family and friends.
R.I.P. Mark.

I would also pass on our sympathy to David Clark considering what he will have to endure considering the circumstances. A very sad day.
