Räikkönen and Hamilton are probably the two mst obvious drivers who would have, or think they had, the mental toughness to go up against Vettel at Red Bull. But Hamilton is secure at Mercedes, and it looks like it won't be Räikkönen at RBR.

it's not about toughness. it's about accepting your position, and depending on what kind of person you are either using the things you have to overcome as an opponent, or accepting them and doing the best you can regardless. it's maturity, not strength.
or maybe naivety |

Vettel is invulnerable at RBR. He just knows the team too well. Lump that encumbent advantage onto his undoubted talent, he is literally unbeatable at RBR in terms of a full season no matter who occupies that second seat.

I really don't think he is. I still think that another of the top liners, totally fired up and needing to win a title at any cost will take him on no problems, and I suspect they would be more than willing to take the management on with it, up until engines get turned down and other nonsense to artificially restrain a driver happens!

i wonder if perhaps when you look at that relationship, it's that the team know him so well that they know what he needs and wants from them without him needing to ask them. that sort of thing will probably come across as a bias or favouritism for the new driver, especially if he doesn't materialise early enough in the evolution in the new car. i mean, let's say control elements in the car has to be designed one way, so you may as well design certain elements with the 3 time world champions preferences in mind rather than the new kid who you can adapt it (or him) for. favouritism or common sense? |

I don't really care who it is in the second seat at RBR. I'd just love to see whoever it is tan Vettel's ****. It isn't going to happen, I know - and even if it could, it won't..... |

Only two drivers have the speed, tenacity, fortitude, mental strength, inner self belief and dedication to beat Vettel at RBR - Alonso and Hamilton.
Kimi comes next, but he's already demonstrated his mind can wander for no apparent reason. |

So it will be a long dominance for RBR/SV...

I wonder if McLaren is regretting not signing Kimi when they had the chance...

Perez probably assumed he was up for a cracker car as in 2012 McLaren but it hasn't been like that at all. The Sauber last year was a very good Sauber (but not in 2013) may have flattered him a bit. If the approach had been more measured they may have found a better substitute (Kobyashi? Hulkenberg?) but we won't know for sure. |

The McLaren engineers love him, and bearing in my how good he is you could cut Kimi a lot of slack with the marketing drivel. |

McLaren desperately need an injection of charisma, attitude and the sort of hardnosed racing instinct Kimi has in abundance.
To me,they look like they still haven't got over losing Hamilton - Kimi would be the perfect driver to give them their mojo back. He would be more suited here than RBR. |

Yes, that would be great. But I don't think it's happening.

Kimi would love to whip Checo after their tripping over each other a couple of times this year. I would say that McLaren could well do without any inner team aggro, but they way they are wasting away, maybe they need some more grenades going off inside the team to keep everyone on their toes! |

Fact or fantasy? It's easy to make a prediction when saying "you heard it here first" regarding the link to Ferrari. The rumours have been flying no doubt. So if you are wrong...no big deal. When you are right then it is a big deal. I am going out on a limb....fact. You heard it here second.

Obviously Red Bull couldn't get Kimi in the end or decided against some high salary demands and went for Daniel, who has shown himself to be at least pretty capable this year. I say 'obviously', because they've assured him equal status.
