Curious, how do you fire someone who is paying $150m to drive and is halfway through a three year deal?

Or his teammate who is bringing €20m for this year?

I suppose you would have some sort of performance related clause in their contract?
Mind you, I suppose if you were providing that kind of money you may have some sort of performance related clause in your deal too?
(Maybe that's really why Kubica is there, so he can slot into the car and show what it's real pace could be?)

Tbh, I imagine if you're bringing $150m then you get to say you have no performance clause. That's the kind of money where you get to write your own contract.

I know it sounds really nasty but I wish it would come to that, apart from bring money, what has Sirotkin done? Stroll's a European F3 Champ and to do that, you have to have some degree of talent as well as lots of money.

Not really, he paid other people so they couldn’t challenge him.

Don’t know of much out there, but it’s all public knowledge.

Bought Prema, spent millions developing the aero to be faster, signed teammates on heavily-subsidised deals. Others were allowed to win but if Stroll directly behind they had to let him through, and if behind him they weren’t allowed to challenge.

Led to some major embarrassments, especially at starts with people pulling out of the way to the side, and then acting as rear gunner for the whole race.

Then, because the series was virtually dead as people no longer wanted to pay to race against an unbeatable car, the FIA changed the rules for 2017, with a new, 100% spec bodywork/aero set up to mirror the already spec suspension.

Not to mention the Williams F1 simultor was converted to simulate his F3 car during his year in F3 thus depriving the team's F1 drivers of simultor F1 time. Plus his running an older Williams F1car to 'loophole' the F1 testing regs amd allow him to get used to F1 time and power in private testing at F1 tracks.

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/s...lliams-829033/

His year in F3 was not a full strength year with many teams not running due to the money Prema (Stroll senior) was investing in his sons future.
Quote:
This year’s F3 field was far less strong than it had been two years ago when Esteban Ocon raced to the title ahead of Tom Blomqvist and Max Verstappen.
The huge sums Stroll’s billionaire father invested in his son’s campaign with Prema led many to believe his success was an inevitability, so they decided to race elsewhere. The field halved in size as six teams sat out 2016 and another, Carlin, dropped out temporarily mid-season. Accusations Stroll benefited from team orders in the season-opener and used special parts developed exclusively for him by Williams, leading to two disqualifications, fuelled the innuendo around him.

He is about as phoney a 'champion' as you can get.

No title in any series is ever undeserved, regardless of the quality of the competition (or lack thereof as the perception of Stroll's F3 success seems to be).

yeah, he still needed to have some sort of speed to, you know, win.

Sure he got a massive leg up but he still had to drive the car well.

Except he had a different and better car than everyone else, including his teammates who weren’t allowed all the upgrades he had.

So what he had to do was outqualify the other teams and then his teammates would help him.

Doesn’t make him the worst driver in the field but even no-hopers like Galael could win like that.

It was a joke.

Then the same could be said for Maldonado winning GP2 in 2010?

No, polar opposite.

F3 was a technical free class, with some restrictions.

GP2 was a total spec car with no modifications allowed.

Winning in junior categories always demonstrates a certain degree of talent nonetheless.

Alright, can we stop slating Stroll for a minute or two? I'm not slating Sirotkin even though he's no less a pay driver than Lance and this thread isn't about slating either of them.

The trouble is, Stroll and Sirotkin are integral parts of Williams' current 'plan', aren't they......? So I don't think anyone can be chastised for criticising that element of the 'plan'......
