Back of planet earth for a moment… interesting to see that the principles of GRM sponsor LMCT+ have purchased an interest in the group that runs & operates SummerNats…

Is this V8Supercar heartland?
Is V8Supercar fundamentally a big picture events company?

Opportunity lost?

As far as replacing commentators I cant see it happening, unless the guy chooses to walk on.

AS a business supercars pay the wages and sell the coverage.
They have a team that seem to work well together and not cause corporate issues, and the pay packet must be ok for both sides

Changing commentators like any business
WHat will it cost, what will it gain?

DO you think there are many v8sc fans, who wont watch because of the mouths, or that they would gain audience bay changing?
IS it worth the risk OR COST of bringing is someone who might be a pain to deal with? OR wants a fatter wallet etc etc

I think the audience for the product is determined by whats happening on the track, the teams, and drivers.
If they want more viewers, the answer will be found on the track and in the pits, not in the box.
The blatherers are background noise.

Probably need to bring Crompton up to speed that a Full Course Yellow doesn't feature a Safety Car.

Skaife was pretty decent for the first few years (like maybe 09-11) but soon became far too reliant on the same catchphrases, and I do think he's well overdue for replacement. I feel the same about Crompo too, he's just been doing it for too long and should really step down.
I think Chad and Tander do a good job commentating and are more than capable of performing commentary roles for the main game.

Chad Nylon and Garth incoherent Tander?!

Sorry but nice lad as he is, Chad is not a frontline anchor/commentator. He is a good support and features guy.

GT suffers from answering questions for too long and over egging a point.

That might improve with more behind the scenes mic or media training but he does know his onions about racing.

I guess it's difficult because Crompo, who I rate as one of the top 4-5 commentators in world motorsport, and Skaife, who knows his stuff but can be too cliched and state the obvious, can't go on forever so the right replacements do need to be considered.

I can only tend to strongly agree with you. I struggle to listen to Thad for any length of time. A genuinely heck of a nice guy, but audiologically tormenths thumwhat.

Hopefully, Young Neil does some more work with Mr BobbleHead ahead of the BADURS 1000. He must have a personal physio and chiropractor at every round. He might become the first driver/commentator to have to wear a HANS device outside of the car to save the sideways neck strain. I did wonder if it was just me, until Junior asked if Garth had Parkinson's.

Awkward indeed

There is hardly any point in discussing it.
The social media storm wants change
The owners of V8Supercar (the legal entity anyway, not the fans) are absolutely deaf and ignorant to the problems.
Maybe the next teev broadcast deal will effect a change.
Not likely. But you never know..

It would be nice if they could break things up a little in the commentary box from time to time, especially the endurance races. Bring in some guest comments people. Get some different perspectives now and again. Ambrose was good, but never been back? Ingall was good, got the push. Even Murphy if we had to once a year. Someone like Campbell Little RIP would have been interesting. Even a Jack Perkins, not just a driver as he knows the whole game. Likewise a Todd or Rick Kelly. Get some people who have been in the game outside of the car. Even Brad Jones if you could get twenty minutes with him in the box at Bathurst. I'm not sure how hands on he is these days? It's just gone a bit stale, there are so many good people they could use. And don't use it as a trip down memory lane, but what is happening this minute and what's been going in the race. It will not happen, I'm just talking **** again.

With 7 having a new director of sport, coinciding with a new AFL broadcast agreement starting, they are making significant changes to its commentary team for 2025.

Obviously the Supercars agreement is very different. But if the broadcaster pushes for change, the end of this season would make sense.

Biggest commentary change I'd like is dedicated commentary for the spectators.

I would favour cricket style rotation of pairs of drivers in stints but it just adds to the cost.
I have really enjoyed Jack Perkins, Andy Jones, Tander in commentary for supports. Having relatively recent drivers makes sense.

Theh histrionics around Skaife though follows Tander and then it's transparent what it's really about.

Ingall... Do not get me started.

I miss the old school callers like Mark Oastler but if you watch the old coverage we have a heavy dose of rose coloured glasses compared to how present, accurate and informative the current commentators are. When they are looked at without bias.

There are no more Doug Mulrays or Big Darryl Eastlake to break things up, we are more likely to get the latest Farmer Wants a Scrag or other sickening cross promotions.

The rotating thing would be good for Bathurst and Sandown, just a couple of people would be enough. A guest commentator every second round would be enough. Tell us about Ingall? I was never a fan of him or Ambrose for that matter when they were driving, but they have good stuff to offer. Many people just don't like Skaife, TV dose things to people. Give it time, more and more of Tander over the next few years I can see a similar thing happening. TV seems to bring the narcissistic traits close to the skin in many people and fake humble is hard to keep up indefinitely. It happens in all codes, seen it first hand. A bit like winning big at lotto, good for some people, poison to many. My gripe with Skiafe is I think he tries to be the smartest person in the room to much, jumps the gun on things without taking time to check what has really taken place.

Different times. Commentators 30-40 years ago had very little information to work with.

Imagine how the likes of Oastler/Hagon/Green etc… would have gone with live timing, micro sectors and HD monitors

Back in the day there was a separate on track commentary. Get it that it more economical just to use the Supercars commentary, but the echoing that comes through on the broadcast is annoying.
