If Kimi wins it, de Montezemolo will be all smiles.

If Lewis wins it, Ron will be all smiles.

Actually they would be 0 and 2 (remember Damon Hill being stuck with it two years in a row after Nigel and Alain left the year after their titles?). If Alonso went on to drive for another team, then yes they would be 22 and 23 (allowing for no number 13).

I wonder if Hamilton would want 0 or 2?

Just a note for Mr V and Knowlsey.
Johan would have laughed at me catching two keys in one stroke - L&P
Johan was One of Kens Right hand men at Tyrrel's before his at Benetton in Schumachers days and then I think MD of the Prost F1 team.

Best to leave the guess work for the seasons end and just wait till the race ends.

(off-topic but..) The lack of number 13 in a crazy thing. Superstition is silly, although I know many drivers are superstitious- Alberto Ascari was a famous example.

Anyway, in countries away from Britain, the number 13 is not always considered unlucky.

I've recently moved house and amongst my boxes stuffed full of items, I found a mirror that has its glass cracked. I've put it on display in my room as a 'sod superstition' message to any superstitious friends who come and see it Besides, aesthetically, the way the glass has broken from the mid-point and made lots of lines coming out from there, it looks very nice.

The thing is, it would be unfair to force the number on a driver who may be superstitious, so call the "no #13" a pre-emptive strike

Since car numers are given by previous champ positions, highest number held by a champion's car was Hakkinen's #8 in 1998. But you could remember the days where McLaren and Ferrari swapped numbers in 1990, and Ayrton has no problems to win a championship with a #27 in his car (Gilles fans could have credited him more for that ).

BTW, if Alonso does it (or not), it wouldn't be the first time that a champion or championship contender is fighting against the odds with their own team bosses. Just to remember the cases of Hulme 1967, Regazzoni 1974, Lauda 1977, Reutemann 1981, Piquet 1986-87, Prost 1988-89...
