I have not found anything to indicate that he had two Anglias.

What I can tell you about the Plastic Escort on an Elan chassis is that it went to the great Special Saloon paddock in the sky about twenty years ago when I purchased it for all its 26R running gear.......and on a similar subject I got the DAF as a roller from the Higgins brothers and relieved it of the March 761 front end parts (to Geoff Davey - goodness knows what he might have done with them) - and the rear end which was all correct March 712 which was used to complete the rebuild of Dave Abbott's black 712 and I then sold all that was left back to the Higgins. The DAF has now been rebuilt itself I hear.

Escort/Elans

In about 1970 Gerry Dobbins put an Elan Chassis under a Mk1 Escort bodyshell, but not plastic. It used the Lotus twin cam engine. He didn't have the funds to get all the bits working at the same time and took a contract maintaining police radios in the Middle East. Slightly ironic given his domestic relationships with his local Police Inspector. Shortly after that the helicopter he was in fell out of the sky so I assume that his wife Meg sold the car in the early '70s.

I fear many special saloon GT cars will have been broken up by these selfish race car dealers and car restorers to rebuild old single seater/sports cars to race again
I wonder if there should be a law against such sacrelidge- maybe putting them in the stocks is too good for them?

Regarding the escort /e lan where there 2 cars 1 with glass fiber body and 1 with steel shell?

Have now watched it and done some follow up.

The Lombank Trophy for Group 5 saloon cars (final round of the 1966 BRSCC Saloon Car Championship i.e. the British saloon car championship) held at the Motor Show 200 meeting at Brands Hatch on 30 October was run in two parts. In the first part “Paddock Bend saw its fair number of shunts with no less than five cars coming to grief against the bank. Gordon Spice started it when he spun his Cooper into the bank and retired, then Steve Neal lost his Cooper going down the hill and collected Jacky Ickx, who was driving the third works Lotus-Cortina, both cars retiring on the spot. Finally Anita Taylor, running in 19th place in her Cosworth-engined Broadspeed Anglia had a half-shaft let go and did a series of rolls and loops down the hill, the Anglia landing on the bonnet of Roger Heavens’ Cooper S as he tried to dodge the Anglia. Naturally enough this eliminated both cars.” [MN 3-11-66] John Fitzpatrick in another Broadspeed Anglia won the 1000 cc class and thus became the overall champion. Broadspeed cars were normally dark red with silver roofs, the TV pictures suggest this was so.

PS Nice segment with Barry Lee. Also a reminder of a tour of Dagenham in late 60s and the appreciation of the workers' desire to have a "down tools and walk out" break to relieve the boredom and monotony of the production line.

An Australian Austin A30

Off the central theme I know, but interesting nonetheless. Browsing the Murray Walker Scrapbook I found an item in which he referred to a drive that he had around Bathurst by Peter Brock in the latter's 3.0 Holden-engined A30. This was in the late 1990s.

Peter Brock book tells you about this car he built in his early days of racing was a successful Ozzie car
not sure if he drove a replica or his original car at Bathurst
