Was expecting a raft of quicker times at the end with teams getting in readiness for qualifying tonight, maybe the red and subsequent yellows down the Mulsanne scupperd that to a degree.

A few drivers were on personal best that were ruined with traffic in the final sector.

Ferrari still doing weird things on the straights in FP1.



Fortunately the normal distribution that develops means you can still parse out their average top speed on the laps where they drive normally....


I would rank top speed as Toyota > Ferrari > Porsche on the average race lap.

I think Penskes won't be slower than privateers in the end

So, with only 8 places for Hyperpole, BOP changes to fastest cars after Spa and first sessions at LM including Test day, just for fun, I' ll go with:

At least: 3 (or4) orsches, 2 (or3) Ferraris, 2 Cadillacs and if there are some places left, some surprise entrys from: Toyota, BMW and Alpine


Hope that Peugeot would join the game but for now it doesn't look good.

They aren't sandbagging in the first practice session. They might just not be trying to go as fast as they can. They could be working on setup running through different parts doing a whole bunch of different things. They know they can go fast for qualifying when they need to.

Tracking the evolution of manufacturer fastest sector times from test day through FP1

Sector 1 best:

You can draw some conclusions by seeing who isn't getting faster with every session (as they logically should considering the track grip ramping up), or who is getting slower for one reason or another...Explanations could be as simple as increased fuel loads compared to earlier sessions, or sandbagging.

Lamborghini pace doesn't improve and sometimes gets slower. This is an abnormality compared to the class norm...could be due to any number of reasons.

Given the history of late BoP/EoP changes I wouldn’t have tipped my top end either, sucks for the series and one of the few things IMSA does well. Show up and that’s what you’re running with. Assuming WEC/ACO can read your throttle traces and see who’s really not on it top end and if someone is truly slow
