When A1GP was initially being planned, there was talk of a Nigerian team ...... and of a circuit being built in Lagos.

I do hope Team China will be on the grid. They have showed some good potential in the past. I also do hope that by some miracle Korea will be back, with people like Hongsik Jeon involved this time |

Teams NED, MAL and AUS are the busiest in their preparations. Team NED will in fact, try to beat the Assen lap record next week. As to where the cars are, or have been.. If you watched Top Gear today, you would have had an idea.

clearly visible in the background: the A1GP storage/ transport crates of the cars at the Top Gear test track at Dunsford ab. Now, I don't know when that particular footage was shot, but I reckon somewhere between May and mid July this year.

Did you see the cars, or was it just the parts crates and cheese box's? Ned must have a car then if they are trying to break lap record?? Team Aust fully funded by A1 operations so is surprising if they are spending.. Even the franchised teams are on hold when it comes to spending!!

A1GP puts out a pointless press release about what a couple of drivers have been doing in other series and the fact that a simulator was at some motorshow in Jakarta *YAWN*.
But still no idea about the calender for the upcoming season besides Surfers and Assen... Hopeless! |

NZ leg of A1GP in serious doubt
The New Zealand round of the A1GP is looking increasingly doubtful with the governing body unable to find a commercial backer. Speculation has been rife in the motorsport world after the governing body struggled to find a commercial backer. Asia-Pacific regional manager Greg Eaton says it is doubtful. He says they are yet to make a decision but it will be based on the commercial prospects. Doubt had surrounded the staging of a New Zealand event after Gary Dawson stepped down as CEO. Eaton says Dawson approached them as a promoter. He says they had been in discussions with Dawson's company but the timeframe was not appropriate. Dawson, who also works as the CEO of Waikato rugby, says he had hoped to have reached an agreement. He says because of his rugby commitments the timing meant it was impossible for him to do both. Organisers have until the end of the month to make a decision. The 2010 season starts at the end of October on the Gold Coast. http://tvnz.co.nz/motorsport-news/nz...-doubt-2887630 The whole things starting to look like a dead duck sadly,Team New Zealand appear to have vanished from the face of the earth.Any other encouraging news that anything may take place this season?. |

Not having a NZ round this season is not exactly breaking news.
I'll be looking for a better written and researched article than that one before making any conclusions. Last I heard Colin Giltrap confirmed that the team will be back in the coming season, but the lack of news about the series in general is a worry. |

Could be problems looming for a race at Kyalami ..... at local govt level ... they backed the event last season (this year!)

Perhaps A1GP should consider some sort of mini-championship (4-5 rounds only) until the economic situation improves or a new backer is found. |

Relief ..... Govt today said it will honour all existing contracts. But I don't think that's the end of it.
It also cast doubt on Superbike and Superstars events. Bottom line is that publicity like that does damage motorsport's credibility. Last edited by rychard; 13 Aug 2009 at 16:05. Reason: spelling |

This suggests that the calender is far from being set by A1GP, they are mooting a possible February date for a NZ round but it's doubtful...
http://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times...er-for-Waikato Everything should be decided by now and they should publicly release what they have been able to put together, even if it is not much. Any other discussions should be about 2010-2011... |
