Checking the speed trap PDF's on the LMS' site, it seems that the Pugs made big gains in terms of straightline speed in P2. In both sessions, the Audis ran 283km/h, while in the first session, the fastest Peugeot was 287 km/h, and in P2 the fastest 908 ran a 291km/h.
Are the Pugs shedding downforce to boost what is likely the only advantage that they still have over Audi, which is speed down the straights? Seems to support what you said about the Oreca car's areo and maybe why the factory car was so fast, and maybe why Davidson spun was the reduced downforce. Certinaly couldn't have helped... |

Peugeot is running with their high downforce aero package (2 dive planes at the front and big gurney at the back). The higher top speed is probably down to lower drag (because of coupe shape) and a more powerful engine.

But where did Peugeot pick up so much speed down the straights--both 908's trailed the #7 Audi in session one in lap time and only one 908 was slightly faster in the speed trap, while both have been faster than both Audis in session two.
At PLM last year, Peugeot used their HD package, but were trimming downforce to boost straightline speed for qualifying during practice. Granted, because of rain and Audi adapting a similar areo package that came to naught during the race, but it seems that Peugeot knows that tomorrow may be a throwaway day, and trying to get set up for qualifying now and maybe running fast laps now in case Q is a washout. |

Planet Le Mans' reports said that the track was damp for most of both sessions which prevented everyone from putting in a very serious lap time. It seems that quick Nic got a near perfect traffic free lap late as the track started to dry.
The article said that McNish tried to make a charge late and had an impressive sector time but aborted the lap due to the damp track or maybe even traffic. |

Is there a mobile-friendly website that has live timing for the LMS races? I don't hold out much hope of knowing what's going on tomorrow at Silverstone if left to the PA system and inadequate score board in Luffield.

On another note, this image shows one of the badly-kept secrets for next year, Aston Martin announces an open P1 car for next year in the Silverstone paddock.
