No Mercedes finished the race, disaster for them in an international GT3 race, think they will be backing their man Engel, the Mercedes engineer looked pretty embarrassed when the AMAC man come into the garage

if AMG/MB don't want SVG next year, I still can't imagine he'd be without a drive for too long... remembering that Craig Lowndes was still prone to running into trouble now and again for backing his talent too heavily in his twenties...

Record crowd for Bathurst 12 Hour
The three-day crowd figure of 40,364 is an increase of 8.8% on the 2016 crowd of 37,079. Whie it doesnt actually say it in the article, previous history shows thats about 17,000 race day people |

Well ... I guess that is all pretty much wrapped up ... the race and the silly controversy. Good on both drivers to be able to say what they eventually did.
SvG did make too many mistakes; Engels made one very public mistake. All can be forgiven. Frankly, the race was over anyway because no car could keep up with the Ferrari. had The #22 not caught traffic coming over the top, the #88 would have caught up in a couple laps anyway, and once by ... there was no way it was getting caught again. Mercedes lost a podium, but the race was never theirs to lose. |

Great race. Oh boy that Ferrari was fast. Seems to be the GT3 to have at the moment - both in SRO and IMSA.
Mercs lacked some top speed but their drivers crying being miles off pace after practice kind of looks silly when you're in it until the end with very competitive lap times. |

Anyone know where I can watch the last hour of the race? The Nismo TV video claims to be the full race, but is missing the last 50 minutes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this event. The end got a little messy and the coverage cut off before the podium ceremony, but all in all, it was fun to watch.

What a race of attrition, I managed to watch 8 hours of it and thoroughly enjoyed it save for the last 45mins or so. Great shame for SvG, I'm sure he was just having a bad day, Engel's comments were somewhat scathing but unsurprising in the heat of the moment. Great drive from Vilander and co just as Daytona last week, the Ferrari is not only quick but pretty frugal on fuel by the looks of it. Great pity that we didn't see more of the BMW's after a promising start from Mostert, the mechanics at this event absolutely worked their nuts off with the amount of mechanical repairs and damage.

Quite a race.
Cool to see the Competition Porsche take second. Great drive back by Parente, Bell & Ledogar, a shame they didn't quite make it back onto the lead lap. McLaren had the pace to battle with pretty much everyone except the Ferrari. |

Quite shocked when looking at all the comments towards Maro Engel on social media in the last 12 hours, mainly from Aussie's & kiwi's. Understand they have been upset with the comments he gave 'in the heat of the moment' on SvG (although maybe somewhat justified IMHO), and for which he apologized in the meantime. Wondering when the bashing will stop... seems like most of the heroes behind their small screen doesn't show any sign of civilization. Not taking side with any of those two, both are top drivers for whom we all go to the circuits.

Another great Bathurst - kudos to Richard Craill great commentator and should be on 7 with V8SC good knowledge of the teams and drivers.
SVG - I remember a few years back on V8SC on team radio someone said keep clear of him on live coverage cant think who it was at the time - this was a few years back now but he seems to be a disaster waiting to happen - he has a huge amount of talent has a championship (s) to his name drivers all types of cars and events but he makes some very stupid mistakes. I'm backing Engel on this one - easy to have a go at his V8SC record wobbling around in that Mercedes on tracks he did not know - on the other hand I saw him at Phillip Island a few years back and he wiped the floor in the SLS has done well at Macau and N24 (though a dubious pass) and is back in a factory DTM car hopefully it will not be an older spec car like last time. On well another 12 months to wait and put up with the usual suspects comments on here - hopefuly everyone can accept and appreciate racing and opinions and not have the 2018 Bathurst 12 Hour thread turn to s&@$* like the 2017 thread |

Part of the problem is that race and the event development are rolled into the one thread. The race we all agree on, The event sees different people having different opinions on where it should head Biggest question for the coming year, well in australia anyway, will be regarding tv coverage. Ch 7 contract is up, supercars is in control. Will be good to find out the ratings I had a number of supercars fans contact me yesterday to talk about the race. so its getting more attention Possibly one of the biggest talking points that come out was Maro's comments. Gave the event much more attention and created a bit of extra passion. While not commenting on if he was wrong or right It certainly created discusion Last edited by peckstar; 5 Feb 2017 at 22:10. |
