It depends where you'll be marshalling. More and more circuits are going over to digital radio and scanners will then be of no use.

Just search any of the 147 threads that already exist on this subject... :-)

Scanners.......
Oh how all my memories of wasted hours reading and replying to these threads have come flooding back..... How could the circuits have been so mean... Moving to digital radio systems has taken away so much of our fun ..... |

You'll notice I've merged all the obvious ones into a single thread. It was, I think, 54 threads.
There are plenty of other less obvious ones that could also be merged... |

I'm finding this one difficult to read, being digital and all...

Still better than thinking of him in binary terms.

Be aware a lot of circuits and systems are going digital - rendering an analogue scanner redundant - however some places do still use analogue, but it is dying out gradually. Try this thread: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...light=Scanners You find everything on there...I believe. |

Some circuits / International events use a [temporary] MRTC NXDN Digital encrypted system, which can only be monitored by an AOR ARDV1 (and soon an AOR ARDV10). HTH. |

Blimey. £400 to £1000 for a device that'll end up being dropped in a tyre wall!

Dropped? Or thrown.
Did spend a day last year with someone who had an expensive scanner and inadequate waterproofs. I sincerely hope the presence of the former made up in pleasure terms for the absence of the latter. Couldn't figure it myself. |

87.7FM will probably be for commentary (not Safety, Flag or other channels). Therefore any "ordinary" radio would pick that up. I am fairly sure Silverstone broadcasts commentary for big meets on that frequency, though sometimes it is found on an AM channel, but I cannot remember which.

Whenever I am at Snetterton for a car meeting I can pick up Race Control, but not the marshall's posts. Does anyone know what frequency they use?
