The IES Nissan was seen in 3 litre and (I think) 3.4 litre versions, another prod block SR2 effort

You also missed the Lehmann VW 2 litre turbo from LMP675 through to, I think, 2004
A version of the IES V6 Nissan also appeared as a 120 degree V6 badged as a Willmann in the team Bucknum Pilbeam in ALMS |

The engine was active in 2003 under LMP675 rules btw. Quote:

The IES was built in multiple configs. I was around Bucknum at the time... I actually roomed with Graham Dale Jones in 2004 at Sebring... interesting fellow.

Thank you for your reply.
Wiki lists the 2004 bucknum engine as "Nissan (AER) VQL 3.0 L V6". So this is the IES engine? And how did this work, IES used an AER engine and modified it? |

Essentially, it was just the bare V6 block. IES then modified them for their particular design, and finished the race motor. |

Appreciate the list of engines but does anyone else think this feels like an obituary? End of an era of open competition in this class.
I wonder how long it will last... |

A bit related: anybody have a clue what has happened/will happen with all these engines? I imagine Honda and Porsche have kept their engines of the market, but what for the others? Are they AER's, Nissans, Judds, zyteks, etc. just collecting dust? |

The Zyteks (rebranded as 'Gibson') will be THE spec engine so no dust for them...
The rest will prob die because IMSA demands people to build OEM fake bodyworks too if you want to carry on with the engine IIRC, and people like Judd and AER and whomever ain't gonna bother |

Is there room for them in VdeV cars or something? Not my specialist subject so I might be guessing!

Naw, VdeV is almost exclusively the domain of the 2 Liter Honda K20 NA engine (and in many series by regulation rather than by default). There are efforts to move to a new engine as the Hondas are getting long in the tooth but nothing has been decided yet.

I dont know about the VdV regulations, but i imagine there must be dozens of engines from the list i provided that could provide for a nice race-class.
But i would guess that the running costs will be the issue. I mean, even if you get such an engine for free you will have to do very costly rebuilds after a while. |

The replacement engine that they've been talking about - and which was supposed to be going along with revised (read beefier) car specs - would have been larger and a bit more powerful (so a P2 block might not be completely out of the question). But then all that talk was from 2 or 3 years ago and might have come to nought with the introduction of P3 and what not... I'll see if I can find a link to the article in question. Must've been on endurance info... Edit: Found it. Those plans were for 2015, so they are most likely dead in the water by now, especially seeing how VdeV should have a substantial P3 field of their own, if in a shared field with the GT-cars rather than the CNs. Not so sure about that. The new Gibson spec engine is a purpose-built, 4.2 litre V8. Their current LMP2 engine (the Nissan) is a 4.5 litre stock block. OK, they have produced 3.4, 4.0 and 4.5 litre V8 racing engines for LMP1 and LMP2 in the past but they are surely not about to start remanufacturing those. Still means lots of old LMP2 motors knocking about.

Only just realized/remembered that the new Oreca 05 of Signatech will be forge-badged as Alpine just like the old 03R of theirs was. Do we know what the fake initials will be this time, A450c???? And whether it's official homologation like they did with the previous Oreca. IIRC none of the other rebadging names have bothered with actual rehomologations as they have (or ACO hasn't aproved them). Also, will they be allowed to keep the name for upcoming spec LMP2 rules?

As long as they continue their striking blue livery I don't really care what they call the car and/or engine, that car is a joy for the eyes!

And really easy to photograph. Something about the colours and the contrast makes the photographs appear really sharp. It helps me anyway.
