IMSA BoP's stickers? The RFH Dome would've never made it out of tech.

That's rather nice. So that completes the group of international LMP2 cars. We've just got the Nissan bodywork for the Ligier to go. It's looking like a rather pretty grid for a few series next year!

Pleasantly surprising. I, like many of us I'm sure, was expecting something along the lines of the LMP3 car, rather than this mixture of HPD ARX-04 and Ligier JSP2.

Even more surprisingly.... this means that the Mazda DPi changed considerably less than we thought! (still a lot more changes than the Caddy, though)

The LMP3 nose would have not worked on this car. The front of the tub in terms of height etc would have caused mounting issues with the rest of the package to get the manu bodywork to both be mounted right, and to get the shapes to go.

Not as we saw the LMP3, no - thus why I say "along the lines of." The differing specs of the cars makes direct copies an idiot's proposition regardless of other factors(even the Ligier JSP3 which bears such strong similarity to the JSP2 has numerous VERY obvious differences), but there are certainly still ways to have gone along similar aerodynamic lines to the Riley P3 while still making the Mazda bodywork doable.

Given how I(and many others) are not convinced that the Riley P3's aero is all that good(compared to the all-conquering Ligier JSP3, at least), that was a frightening possibility. What we've got instead is, I think, the car with THE most effective-looking aero of all the new P2s. And the best looking to boot.

The front of the car is very different compared to the Mazda, the rear are very similar in both cars. Riley made a huge job, creating two different looking cars. I can't say the same about the Dallara/Cadillac

I didn't mean literally. The way the nosebox on the P3 car accepts the front bodywork, is drastically different than what we see on the P2.. ergo, if you chose to do similar aero on the P2 for your stock bodywork, it would limit the options for manu. aero options for optimization.

All that would ahve happened if Riley went more along the lines of the P3 aero is that the MAzda DPi would look quite different.

I strongly doubt this aero was solely -or even primarily- the result of adapting to Mazda's needs. Since DPi is supposed to be balanced to the P2s, but the P2s won't be balanced to each other on the ACO side of things, the smart move is to prioritize the base car, not to make concessions for the Mazda bodywork. Riley/Multimatic need to provide a product for as many customers as possible, after all.

The press articles said they barely changed anything but the front end and I wasn't expecting a particularly different looking car. I'm actually pretty shocked they have totally different rear fenders and reasonably surprised it has the thinner style of raised nose.

Looking through the articles it seems Multimatic had a lot to do with the structural and aerodynamic design of this car so that explains a lot of the divergence from the usual brutally simple Riley style to something more Lola-like visually.

We were always going to get something less classically Riley-like and more Lola-like regardless. The specs being built to favor the approach too much.

And don't be too certain that it was all Multimatic's influence that resulted in this. None were ever built, because nobody ever placed an order, But Riley DID try to stick their foot in the LMP2 waters a while back;

Though there are obvious differences you can certainly see how elements of the above rendering have clearly been applied to the Mk XXX.

In fact, now that I think of it, it looks like they took this old rendering, mixed it with the data and resources Multimatic acquired from Lola, then made the appropriate to tweaks to make it work under today's rules. Hopefully the collaboration works out.
