Obviously not, as we have seen Davo, Whincup, Lowndes and Tander all finish outside the championship top 10, sometimes well outside. Maybe others might be 0.1s faster under certain conditions, but these guys have proven to be fast and consistent over the whole season with good development feedback so deserve their places of course.

Exhibit B: FPR - big budget - limited results?

Its all relative, would Schumacher have won any titles in a Minardi? Would Jimmie Johnson have won 4-straight Sprint Cups in a Wood Brothers entry? Would Ambrose have won his titles in a Larkham car?

$$ are what make it happen 90% of the time, the car of the future won't change this

peckstar clearly stated he was referring to the fact SBR started out with less of a budget (circa-1998)

But that wasn't the question.......So the fact remains, there isn't a low budget team who's won the championship.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
well it depends how you define low budget, but there were about 6 teams that had bigger budgets than SBR in 2003, so they were really only a mid pack by budget team

It is interesting that Hyundai may produce their Tau V8 in 5 L form.

Suitable for V8 Supercar?

Current VESA Operations Manual confirms the current powerplants, and makes no reference to any other...

Do Ford & Chevrolet actually make a DOHC, VVTi/CVVT/VTEC, 4 Valve 5 Litre V8 Engine in production?

Looked under the bonnet of XR8 or current Mustang?? The XR8 has the Lincoln truck block with the Mustang 4V heads. Mustang has it's own block which makes it 4.6L. New Mustang engine in the works, which is said to be making it's way into the next XR8/GT Falcon's.

Item's such as variable timing can be removed, depend on how there built into or bolted onto the engine.

Chances are that they might go down NASCAR path, where Toyota basically have a copy of the Chevy R07 engine. Nothing to stop any other manufacturer doing the same.

Some production engines are putting out enough HP to be used. The 5.4L Ford GT and Mustang GT500 engine could be an example and there is no shortage of Chev powerplants. It would open things up to other manufacturers as well. They could be paritised with air restrictors similar to the V8 utes.

or in the case of the possible entry of Kia and Hyundai, massive blowers rather than restrictors

Well Hyundai already has a rear wheel drive V8 car, and Kia will be bringing one out as well, both having a 280kw 4.6l V8.

The Hyundai version is definitely coming to Australia and is seen as a Lexus rival overseas.

Hyundai is a car company going places, its not out of the question they'd race V8s, although I'm not really sure how likely it is.

I seriously doubt that a Hyundai will make it to the V8SA. Now, Kia does have sporty sedans.

I was only s**t stirring fellas.

Hyundai have some great cars, and they manufacture them in the States now as well. They will continue to grow.

Never took to the Kia that looked like a cheap copy of the S-type Jag though, but they sold a few of them in America too. I think their future is more in small cars and SUV's.

I don't take the mooted move to a possible Korean V8 round too seriously, their champcar and A1gp rounds never eventuated. I think the Singapore round would be good though, and would give an Asian manufacturer some exposure outside of Australia/ NZ / Emirates.
