I think 198 covers both-would'nt have thought you could go far wrong by using it.One thing to be certain of is the ROPS you opt for, quick call to Sonny Howard at SHP in Littleport Cambridgeshire should prove very helpful .
I would avoid both the 72 option and also the Lapsed version-its lapsed because of being out of date-lost in the flooded basement etcetera.lol
Good luck with the build btw.

It's certainly going to be a little bit different to the FF1600s that I'm used to! I'm sure I'll be on various threads sporadically asking for help/advice.

Ah, that explains the lapsed option. What's the difference between Current and Current Extension (apart from the former costing £23 more!) Is Current Extension for historics?

it certainly is..... I would have thought an Elan would be more suitable if you are looking to be at the squirty end.

An Elan would have been lovely but we're not that well-heeled unfortunately. The sale of our Van Diemen wouldn't have even funded the purchase of a road going Elan, let alone the conversion whereas an MGB is much more affordable.

Now there's an idea!

Terence, know I keep asking, but do you mind confirming if I need 'Current' or 'Current Extension' homologation spec, please? Thanks

I don't think Terry is right with this, current homologation papers are for currently homolgated cars eligable for modern day competition under FIA Appendix J. As cars become non- current their homologation lapses, therefore you can't enter your MGB in modern day Le mans 24hr because the homologation has lapsed for the vehicle. You therefore require a set of lapsed homologation papers as you are building a car of a previously homologated type which's homologation has lapsed.

Given that most App K cars racing are brand new you'd have thought the papers would be current ?

Got an email back from the MSA yesterday confirming that, because the MGB is historic, I will need to order lapsed papers. I just hope they're right...

Building a car to Appendix K , [ FIA Historic ] has always been difficult .As well as the "K " regs , you need the Homologation & usually Appendix J of the correct period . I had several " J "s on file , but have recently come across this ,
http://www.fia.com/sport/regulations..._category%3A89

Link to FIA Appendix J .Don,t know if it is new , [ have often struggled in the past to find the right one ], but it is a handy source of information .

Yes , all good info .It has not always been easy in the past to find the way into some of the required [ outdated ] regs in places like the FIA websites .
So any links are always worth keeping .

Good morning!
I'm going to build a pre-66 MK1 Mini Cooper to run under App.K on 2016 season.
2015 to build it.

I thought I had understood all (or almost :P) rules, however, I've been told that some App.K rules will change soon and I'm a bit worried because it's not a cheap build and I wouldn't like to have a non-valid race car due to some rule changes while building it.
If it's something related to a small part, no problem. But what if it's related to the rollcage once it's fitted, welded and the car painted?

Many thanks for your help and best regards from Barcelona!

Welcome to the forum .
It is always difficult to find all of the rules that apply for a Historic class .
It can be even more difficult to know if they will change in the next year or so .The best thing I can say is to check out this link with a major roll cage manufacturer,& possibly contact them as they might have an insight into any planned future changes .
They also have a link on this page to the latest APP K [ 9/2014 ] , which is well worth reading .

By the moment, the only big query is about dog box. App.K says it's not allowed, but almost everyone in the grid uses it...

And there is no way the MSA would dream of allowing dog selection! Choice is yours, either start the car with the clutch depressed or go the compliant route.

Then the choice is really easy!
I want my car to be legal. perhaps not as competitive as others but... I want to enjoy racing in period races, not winning the european championship (well, I would like it, but it seems hard to me :P)

Not allowed, unless homologated in period and I'm not aware of any pre-66 touring car having them homologated.

The cheats who use them should be protested.

Good man! I'm sure that with a decent gear set there'll be barely any difference. Its possible that those with dog type dont use them to the full anyway. There are a number of mini specialists who still know the old school methods of getting the best from the mini box.
Good luck with the project and welcome to tenths btw.

In one of the early U2TC races I got asked in the collecting area 'have you got a spare dog box' they didn't even have the subtlety to ask for a gearbox!

I think things have improved a little in recent years but I reckon it was about 50/50 6 or so years ago. theres plenty of videos on youtube.
