Was certainly misty on the roads this morning, so if the weather is as expected some early morning mist should be expected.

any food you can heat on a stove and ideally tinned will be perfect. doesn't take long to cook, is weatherproof-ish and will give you enough energy to keep going. found tesco do a tinned sweet n sour chicken with rice yesterday, might not taste great but it should do me well. hot dogs are great too, all you need are some rolls to go with it. i tend to go with a little and often approach to food, rather than a big meal.

clothing wise take lots of thin layers. easy to put on / take off and plenty of spares if some get wet or dirty. fingerless gloves are a good one too if you are on flags, amazing how a SC period can get tiring and hurt your hands. plenty of spare batteries too.

one thing to watch out for, especially during the night, is how hot you get when you are needed trackside. overnight you'll wear a lot more than normal to keep warm and the nature of a 24hr race usually means you get long periods of nothing to do. if you are suddenly pushing cars you'll get hot very quickly and will want to remove some of those layers as soon as you are finished. be careful not to take too much off and cool too quickly as that is where problems can start.

i have a question for the silverstone regulars about the track conditions...

just watched the highlights of the 6hrs and the mess and damage caused by the fake grass carpets was astonishing. have the circuit come up with a better plan for the 24hrs? i'd hate to see SC for removal of that kind of debris or worse still teams getting damaged cars as a result of it.

The usual suggestion is that if the drivers used the track and not the astroturf there are fewer problems!

It did get a bit embarassing, during the 6his, around the Stowe, Vale, Club area. I would hope that it has all been removed, as it doesn't seem to serve any purpose.

Very much looking forward to this now, after working my second 6-day week in succession I'm getting sick of the sight of the office and I need to do something to blow the cobwebs away. Moslers rumbling past at 3am ought to do the trick...

Forecast is scorchio from Wednesday onwards this week but as others have said it gets cold during the night - not only that but your body's metabolism makes you a lot colder than you might expect. I haven't marshalled a 24Hr before but I've been pit crewing in the 2CV 24Hr for a few years now. Don't be fooled by weather forecasts saying the temperature will stay in double figures overnight - it'll feel a lot colder than that.

Nobody's mentioned it yet, but in previous years we've had vouchers for a breakfast (Saturday & Sunday) and an evening meal (Friday & Saturday). I also remember being given lunches... maybe roys1 can confirm.

This does make things easier... before getting into the "proper" shifts we usually all do the first hour or so, then take an hour each (or per group) to get food then into the shifts proper. It's a lot easier to pop into the diner than to try to heat something up on a camping stove or a barbecue

If we're arriving outside of the usual sign-on times, where's the best place to park to sign-on in Race Control?
The plan I've seen implies that the car-park outside the diner is for the racing team's cars. If we can get in there... great... otherwise I don't know what parking is like next to RC.

I'd imagine the LMS cars would have caused a lot more damage, due to the huge levels of downforce sucking the astroturf up, than the Britcar field. Plus hopefully the circuit has done something to improve things!

Stephen,
Try parking behind the old med' centre at Brooklands, or behind the grandstand at Brooklands. Should be clear of race cars and just a short walk to RC.

Looking increasingly likely that I'll be filming this one. The only problem I need to sort out now is where you camp as media! Not something i've had to deal with before!!

The "Bus Stop", Spa.
Here's what they do about food during a 24hr race meeting in Belgium!

Hasten to add this was during lunch, before the race had started.

Come over anyway - you know how you just love to camp in a tent at the 24hour.

Oh, actually, no you don't!! I'll put the kettle on again for a brew in the middle of the night, if you turn up?
