Alonso got himself baxk into the top 10 and then managed to do a big double barrel roll damaging the car and causing lengthy delays. This clip shows him rolling and driving on but they had to stop for repairs shortly after.

Star lineup for Audi's rally raid project:

Stéphane Peterhansel, Carlos Sainz and Matthias Ekström are the drivers.

The car will be developed by Audi and Q Motorsport. The latter is a just another name for Sven Quandt's X-raid company so a lot of experience is onboard. Sven 'BMW' Quandt joining their rivals!

Well they're certainly taking it seriously - that's an impressive lineup. Does Ekstrom have any rally raid experience?

Ekstrom raced the 2021 Dakar this year with a SSV Yamaha. He did a good learning race. Few weeks ago he raced in Andalucia Rally with the Mini Buggy and he won in 2WD category and finished in a good 5th overall. Anyway this race in Spain was more like a baja rally, speedy and with low navigation

Tomorrow Ekstrom will start the Kazakistan Rally with the buggy, a demanding cross country rally with a lot of sand and navigation. Let's see what he has learned from this year Dakar experience

Seems like a good idea to elevate the series with.

WEC with Le Mans,
Rallying with Dakar,
IndyCar with the 500,
F1 with, er... Monaco?

Just a shame that F1's crown jewel is such a borefest at the moment, but that's probably a discussion for elsewhere.

Many series around the world have a date in the calendar that seems to transcend the discipline, and it works in other sports too. Golf/Majors, Tennis/Grand Slam etc.

The 2021 Silk Way Rally was cancelled mid-way. Only 619 km were timed

Guerlain Chicherit was the cars winner with Century.

Matthias Walkner won in motos with KTM.

Aleksandr Maksimov won in quads with Yamaha.

Dmitry Sotnikov won in trucks with Kamaz.
