Ditto Mitch. I want to see a 12c take on the Viper, C7R, etc at Le Mans!

Looks like Seb Loeb's new 12C GT3s, which are indeed 2013 spec 12C GT3s.

Maybe they killed the 12C project so they could build a car based on the P1....

It has been discussed to death why hypercars aren't raced in GT these days. It just doesn't make sense to the manufacturers on any level, unless of course they'd be racing for the overall wins.

2016 is the year for a new GT+/Le Mans return seemingly:

2015 is when the '12S' will become available, I'd guess they'll base their GT on that.

This part is pretty interesting. Especially the part stating they already had 10 orders. Shame that they pulled the plug.

Yeah 10 orders is really impressive - especially since the GT3 wasn't setting the world alight around that time. Not 100% sure I believe that to be honest, but I know they were well on the way with the GTE project when it was pulled.
The desire has always been there and with the right regs they'll be there in a few years. Will you make the trip over for it Mitch? |

I'm going next year, if they show up then then I'll be even more excited but if not, I'll just have to keep going back until they show up

I don't quite understand why would anyone pull the plug after spending 1M on the program and having 10 orders lined up just because the new regs are coming... in 3 years time! Why not take the chance to break even?
Either McLaren have too much money to waste, or maybe the GTE version wasn't looking that promising so they decided not to throw good money after bad. Or, perhaps, those 10 orders weren't as solid Whitmarsh and co would like us to think. |

Or maybe building and developing the cars would have cost a lot more than the company could recoup in sales and spares in a three-year period?
Why start any new GTE project now if it won't be online this season, knowing the car will almost certainly be obsolete in 2017? |

GTE cars usually don't last in top-level competition for more than 3 years anyway, not without significant updates.

Seems like an optimistic bet there will be GTE McLaren in a few years out there testing.

Sorry, it isn't. P1 doesn't have the side vents that the 650S does, or those hips, and they both share similar headlights. It's a 650S something and it'll be shown at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Maybe a GT3 version of the 650S?

GTE car has been waiting to go for about 6 months now, with convergence talks dropped the car just needs 650S bodywork (as 650S has replaced 12C) and it's good to go. 20 years since McLaren debuted at Le Mans next year also....

Was Mclaren in favor of convergence? With the dropped convergence talks are the manufacturers just going to go ahead and build GTE's?
On another note: It's on Pirelli's. That would leave me to believe it might be a GT3 car. Pirelli world challenge? |

Doesn't mean Pirelli won't do a GTE tyre if a mfger asked, Pirelli does supply McLaren's road car tyres. McLaren was already in the process of building a GTE (after they did the GT3 car), I believe they were in favor of convergence but not sure about the torque limiter.
