I must admit on the way down i am always excited by the first sign saying Le Mans, but the real buz always comes when you see the first posters on the billboards, always used to be just as we left Rouen, but in recent years there seems to be fewer of them

Ok - so bad news ... after 18 years in a row I will definitely be missing Le Mans this year.
Unfortunately I am recovering from double knee surgery and the surgeon says that I am not far enough down my recovery to risk it. So I will be looking at the TV thread in due course to work out how I can at least follow the event - I may even pitch a tent in my garden... I hope that everyone attending has a great and safe time and I'll see you all in 2019! Pilgrimage (aka Gav). PS: Can I start a "2019 - who's going" thread so that I can feel better? Bad news, yes . The most important is to come back on two legs.
Bon courage. |

Come on Gavin, if i made it last year, after my little incident on way home from the test day, i am sure you can take it easy and watch from a chair overlooking the track.

Yeh anniversary of the accident fast approaching, but apart from being half an inch shorter back is seemingly ok. Hope you make it for 2019 Gavin. By the way what is the new business venture?

Okay ...............
Finally, despite my best efforts, I have had to give in very disgracefully and admit that I just cannot make it work this year. Work issues have finally thwarted every effort to get to La Sarth this year despite every effort! To say I am extremely ****ed off is an understatement! Guys & Girls ......... have a great couple of weeks - have a safe trip and ENJOY! I WILL be there next year - come hell or high water ............... |

Sorry you can't make it, both Badlands99 and Pilgrimage. We will be sure to include you in a 'Tenths Toast' (mine will hopefully have foie gras on it.... ) on race day at the meeting - but only on the strict understanding that you bally well get your acts together for 2019!

Ayse and I would take the scenic route every time, from choice, but it's definitely shorter/quicker taking the autoroute from Ouistreham, which suits us fine, because our ferry doesn't get in until quite late. In the years we have taken the ferry to Le Havre, we would often take the scenic route (which involved taking a second ferry to cross the Seine).

I’ve been avoiding this sub-forum, and in particular, this thread for many months now, in the knowledge that once again I can’t make it. 4th non-attendance since ‘99.
Enjoy yourselves guys and girls. The planning for 2019 starts now. |

Bad news. I increasingly find my year pivoting around this week and the thought of not going is a horrible one. Hopefully you can make it next year.

Thank you all for the best wishes and for sure I will be there in 2019.
The good news is the feared 3rd surgery isn't required (but I have to be really careful not to cause it damage whilst it is recovering). I am going to miss being there this year but absence makes the heart grow fonder so maybe a year off to realise what I am missing might work... Glad you are better - new business is Legal Recruitment - Squared Legal is the name of the company - specialising in placing lawyers in law firms (or other businesses). |

One of my friends went to Le Mans 24H in late 1990s, he saw the battle of the Mercs with Porsches or BMW... Am not sure if he saw 1998 or 1999 edition.
Another friend was a Le Mans passionate, he was there perhaps more than one time, but lost all traces about him. He is an historian, very smart but... |

Also cannot make it, despite I like Le Mans so much.
Hope to have a book about LeMans (the only one I have, is this of Ian Balmsley...). |

So, those who are going, when do you set off and when do you expect to get to Le Mans? I'm leaving next Saturday afternoon and will be in Le Mans on Sunday morning, ready for scrutineering.

Taking off Tuesday morning of race week from RO, connecting through Munich, should land at CDG at 11, if the rental car desk moves quickly I'm hoping to be at the track around 14:30.
