Haha, Dalziel should read Mark Donohue's 'The Unfair Advantage' and spend a couple of minutes less whining on twitter!
Thorne (#6, the other McLaren) was penalized in race 2 for exceeding the track limits and had another decent (but not spectacular) comeback drive after serving his drive-thru. Curious to find out what the next "major announcement" is! |

Honestly, I believe the Lizards. There's not really any reason not to, IMO, unless you count the large speed gap, and that could easily be car/driver combination. My only question is: when Hans Reiter found this loophole, why didn't he stay quiet and use it to his own advantage at the next rain race? Quote:

This probably aint what it is but what I would like it to be is an alliance between IMSA and PWC for a special GT3 endurance championship. But that won't happen with the conflict of interest between tire makes. Maybe its an SRO alliance? Not sure what else it could be. I mean every GT3 car that is used worldwide has a presence in the series.

Will the COTA races be replayed anytime soon? I don't see it on youtube.

I made it back after two days at this race. It was fun and the racing was good. I don't believe the 30,000 number the track gave but I'd believe 3,000. On Sunday if there were 1,000 I'd be surprised.
I was disappointed as to the teams in the garages were pretty much off limits to people. The cars only showed up for a short time on the grid and then left. It felt like a WEC event where the fan access was non existent. As for the teams not in the garages, they were fine and friendly. Reminded me of a Grand-Am event, in that nature. I wish they would have a fan walk like in IMSA because I was constantly getting out of the way of traffic going back and forth. Maybe they should have their grid out on pit road where people can roam freely and not be worried about being run over. With all of the food trucks in Austin, I would have thought more would have showed up. For a city full of them, I was expecting to get some good food. I did realize that there was zero promotion of the race and even driving up to the track, I had no idea where to buy a ticket. I figured it out but from the outside the track looked empty. SCCA has a really good thing going but they need to somehow let everyone know it and make the event a bit more fan friendly. The cars are great and the racing is neat but I like a race to be an experience. SCCA fell short. I went to Miller last year and it was like a ghost town. I thought that with the explosive growth of this series, that this event would be like an IMSA race with much to do. Since most of you were there, what were your thoughts. |

Spent 2 days at the track as well, Fri pm-Sun am (left early at lunch time on Sun for unseen reasons), missed Estre's tango in the rain although he clearly stated his intentions in the morning warm up when he was not only fastest but visibly faster than the rest diving into the esses!
Great GT show on track, the other classes were entertaining but clearly lacking entries/speed for a place like CotA. The characteristics of the track helped the huge GT field running much more under green than we saw (on average) last year, which was nice. Attendance was decent on Sat, especially in the afternoon when it was all races, lots of families with kiddos too. Had the opportunity to walk the paddock a bit at the end of the day (after track action had seized), not every garage was open at the back but that was probably more down to the weather (quite a bit of wind and sun on that side) then 'fan unfriendliness' and remember CotA is one of the few places to actually have garages. Promotion was poor - as everybody knows - again, might be more of a CotA thing than the series but PWC has to be careful with hick-ups like this. The series is run by WC Vision, SCCA Pro Racing is facilitating, not doing marketing or promotion, see http://www.sccaproracing.com/pro.php?page=aboutpro |

Crowd on Saturday I was fairly pleased with, rain and lack of promotion from the circuit (and probably series) didn't help their Sunday attendance at all. Just remember that these are still early days for this "new" Pirelli World Challenge and WC Vision has been excellent at reacting quickly to any problems. I bet we'll see some changes, at least in terms of promotion, coming for the next standalone weekend. I thought the racing will excellent, as it usually is at COTA, but the track is just too industrial feeling for me and not very fan friendly.

I agree about the in-car too, but I think that is one of the things that will be added into the actual TV broadcast. Since it's delayed by a week, I think they were doing only minimal directing at the track and the rest will happen in post-production. |

Here's a metric I originally created for F1, but adopted for PWC - Total Driver Performance http://nasportscar.com/total-driver-...wc-gtgta-cota/
