Hey, don't forget the Bentley's Continental GT3 project - it also comes next year. And the other "specific" ones: Toyota GT86 (as US Scion ), Hyundai is thinking about GT300 or GT3... Also SRT wants to see Viper not only in GTE, but also as a GT3 car. From more possible comes: Ginetta G55 GT3 and VDS 001 (comes in Dubai as a SP2 class, but Belgian want to see it in GT3 and Le Mans). Who knows, what tomorrow will bring

As I know, there are 8 cars built, possible to start in every GT3 competition. 2 of them will come to British GT. Funny - engine is a Nissan 4.4L V8

Yeah, noticed that didn't know how to edit, cause no delete option even during edit time.., Audi tends to use stupid names, like calling etron to all full electric cars and then calling their Le mans hybrid Etron... Like if there didn't exist one trillion of names to have to use the GT3 tag that even exists at their brand in the R8 LMS. No Safety cage or Spoiler at the text, Sorry.

PS: Maybe a TT GT4 would have been cool instead!.

I would only believe that if R8 steps up to GTE. But even then it's unlikely. They could just do like Ferrari, Aston Martin, BMW and Porsche, using the same models in both classes.

They are only national at present because the G55 is not a road car so cant get GT3 FIA homologation. They can get around this if they build enough to homologate in GT2 first.

The Audi TT RS of VLN could serve as the basis of a TT GT3.

Because regs do not allow 4WD. Must be 2WD but doesnt say which end.

It's the same reason almost all 2WD sports cars use RWD, the accelerating wheels in RWD cars are separate from the turning wheels which mitigates understeer when accelerating out of corners. If the front wheels have to both turn and accelerate, the front tires reach their grip limits faster and cause understeer.

HOWEVER, as that Audi TT win showed FWD can have a major traction advantage in the rain. Also, interestingly, WTCC driver Charles Ng says that the FWD touring cars can accelerate out of corners faster than his RWD BMW 3-series (though he can brake later and have higher entry speed). http://www.speedhunters.com/2012/11/...-charles-ng-2/

Sorry, I was pretty much stating the obvious (I'm no simpleton trust me) but yes, even if it's allowed no-one in their right mind in GT3 would race a FWD car.

Contrary to current trends you dont need big horsepower in GT3. The balance of performance is about power to weight ratio. Given the high speed flowing nature of many european tracks it would be possible to build a 400hp FWD that would be competitive.

As an example: A Volvo C70 with carbon hard top (ala Z4) fitted with a turbo 2.5 litre driving the front wheels could be a competitive package if done right.

Actually....FWD does have an advantage over rear wheel drive, particularly on tight downhill roads. It's not necessarily faster, but in this instance gravity is helping the drive train do it's thing for FWD. That said no one drives only downhill, and RWD definitely has more potential than FWD
