Tyrrell should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Unfortunately the fact that Hampton Downs will not/ might not be ready in time for a race in season 5 has been known for some time. It is why no application was made to the FIA for a date. With no guarantee both parties were left with little option.

For whatever reason it seems that only NZ media sources seem to be under the impression that a race in Season 5 remains a possibility.

For both parties a NZ round will only work when the track is ready and the promoter has an adequate lead-in time to sell race tickets etc The intention is that HD will feature in season 6 twinned with Surfers Paradise.

The race's absence will not I believe have any bearing on A1 Team New Zealand's decision to compete in Season 5.

Below is an old press release from A1GP ..................notice how they cleverly didn't give any details?

Date: 25 June 2009
Press release number: 0445
Embargo date: For immediate release

A1GP Season Five Calendar Approved by FIA

London, Great Britain. The Season Five Calendar for A1GP World Cup of Motorsport has been approved by the FIA at this week’s World Motorsport Council Meeting. Ten dates have been submitted, starting with the first race of the 2009/10 season, the Nitro SuperGP in Australia on 22-25 October.
“We are in a totally different position to most series as we straddle two calendar years. This makes announcing a calendar with all its dates and venues more challenging. However, we are well advanced with all our Season Five contracts, and for those we have yet to make public have plans to announce them with events in the specific countries,” said A1GP Chairman, Tony Teixeira.
The two races announced to date are completely new events in the Gold Coast and Assen, but the series will also include some of the traditional A1GP events. “Our plans include some very exciting new venues that I can assure the teams and the fans will be very popular. While at the moment we have submitted a ten race calendar, I am hopeful of adding one or two more dates in the coming months,” added Teixeira.
Nitro SuperGP General Manager Greg Hooton said he looked forward to hosting the A1GP on the streets of Surfers Paradise come October.
“It is fantastic to be the first event of the 2009/2010 A1GP season, and everyone here is looking forward to hosting the World Cup of Motorsport on the Gold Coast,” said Hooton.
“The A1GP will join the Australian V8 Supercars Championship Series as the co-headline act at the world’s premiere motorsport festival, the Nitro SuperGP, which is enjoying its 19 consecutive year in 2009.”
Ends

2010 FIA calendar isn't out yet, but there seem to be three A1GP 2009-2010 season rounds in the 2009 edition of International Series calendar:

25/10 AUS Gold Coast
15/11 RI Lippo Village
6/12 MAL Sepang

From stuff.co.nz:

Meanwhile, it is not clear whether New Zealand will host a round of the A1GP series this summer, after staging meetings at Taupo for the last three seasons.

Team owner Colin Giltrap organised those meetings but has pulled out of event management and the A1GP chiefs are talking with the new Hampton Downs circuit not yet completed about staging a meeting there.

The spectacular A1GP/World Cup Of Motorsport will come to the new state-of-the-art motorsport complex at Hampton Downs, south of Auckland,New Zealand in October 2010.

While the circuit was initially due to host a round of this years series in January 2010, both A1GP and Hampton Downs circuit management have made a joint decision to instead hold the first A1GP event at the exciting new 3.8 kilometre Hampton Downs Motorsport Park in October 2010.

Lam Pak,

regarding China rounds:

Plans for not being able to hold a Beijing street race this year are due to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic on Oct 1 (government are too busy with this and will not grant approval for other large events), rather than the economic crisis.

Chengdu circuit was simply not up to it.
Shanghai ask for a pile of $$$ in order to recoup anything they can against F1 losses, but what is wrong with Zhuhai?

Zhuhai is always happy to welcome A1GP, you will have to ask those in charge of A1GP what's wrong. It seems to me they always want to go elsewhere.

I think last season A1GP wanted to go back to Zhuhai but the chinese government told them to go to Chengdu, which A1GP regretted agreeing to.

Teams who ran in last years championship have been sent a "race schedule" for the coming season, unfortunately they still have not recieved ANY of the large sums owed to them, or given any info on cars and equipement!

All go for A1GP

THE State Government says it has an 'unconditional' written assurance from A1GP bosses that the racing series will be on the Gold Coast for next month's SuperGP.

The Government moved to shore up the A1GP following a day of destabilising rumours that claimed the financially-stricken series was on the cusp of folding.

Speculation about A1GP's commitment to the Gold Coast's most important event hit fever pitch yesterday when the Opposition went on the attack.

They were quick to put the knockers on the event, suggesting the SuperGP was doomed and the State Government's promise that the cars would arrive was 'less than convincing'.

However, Sport Minister Phil Reeves said A1GP boss Tony Teixeira had told him on Monday at least 15 teams were booked to fly to the Gold Coast in mid-October and there was no substance to rumours they would pull out at the last minute.

"He has personally advised me that everything is go, and I've also received written assurance -- an unconditional and irrevocable assurance -- that the A1GP series will be part of the SuperGP," he told The Bulletin.

TT is at it again. I know of a least 2 teams that are not A1 supported (and several A1 supported) and they all know nothing of TT's so called travel plans? In fact they know nothing FULL STOP

Funny because 2 are actually paid up franchised teams and not reliant on A1?? Not to many of those.

A1GP heads back to Zhuhai China, for 2009-10 Season

A1GP will return to the Chinese track of Zhuhai for its one and only visit to the nation during the 2009-10 Season.

After much speculation and anticipation with just 34 days to the opening round of the season at Surfers Paradise in Australia, the Chinese track has finally been confirmed by the FIA as round 2 of the season on the weekend of the 15th November 2009, replacing the proposed round on the streets of Lippo Village in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Zhuhai last hosted an A1GP event as a round of the 2007-08 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport season, in which A1Teams Germany and India won the two races respectively. A1 Team Switzerland went onto win the championship.

The 2008-09 Season saw the series visit the unknown circuit of Chengdu at the request of the Chinese government to give support and enjoyment back to the people of the Sichuan region, which was devastated by an earthquake in May 2008. Race winners at Chengdu were A1 Team Portugal and A1 Team Ireland, the latter going on to take World Cup glory at the finale at Brands Hatch in May.

The Formula One circuit in Shanghai, and the streets of Beijing have both also held rounds of the championship in previous years.

According to multiple sources, the Indonesian round at Lippo Village has been moved back to a January date, where it is due to open the 2010 half of the 2009-10 Championship, before the series moves away from Asia and across to Africa, then the Americas and ending the season in Europe, in May at Assen, The Netherlands. The final round of the 2009 part of the season will take place at Sepang, Malaysia on December 6th.
