I'm not sure, but I guess so as Audi had taken over everything else atop the grandstand - so I believe......

Thankfully coverage was spoiled by the move. However, I wonder how much their move influenced the radio problems RLM had sometimes with the guys down at the row of woe. I understand corporate requirements but ACO needs to make sure they manage correctly the guys who give them 70% (wild guess) of their public. The area does seem a bit small to house all broadcasters. Were there more buildings to the right of the photo? |

The RLM guys seemed to have been happy about their new position. Not sure how much of that was true though; no direct view of the pits must be annoying.

Eurosport player had a channel with just engine sound. A bit of careful mixing and it went perfectly with RLM

This is the whole unit (if I've got the image to load properly).
RLM had the two top units on the left, (one for broadcast, one for tech. support). Eurosport English were below us. Other Eurosport language broadcasts were on the right. ACO world feed was going out from bottom right unit. Can't remember who else was there though. Interestingly, the whole lot was on wheels - trailers towed by Dutch registered trucks. Although clearly temporary, I have it on good authority that the exercise will be repeated next year, but in 2014 a permanent "broadcast centre" will be built on the outside - roughly on the site where Aysedasi's photo was taken from. From which you glean the ACO's priorities: First Sponsors, second Media, third Spectators. |

I think that is a little harsh, there have been improvements to viewing in some area's over the last few years and a view changes have not been as good, the modern world has rather creped up on le mans as far as corporate sponsership but like just about every other event it is happening eventually

I have read that the Karting Nord campsite which is just along from the RLM position is going to be redeveloped so guess this ties i n with the proposed new media suite. Less room for camping and the real racegoer, more corporate space. Wonder if there will be anyone left at the circuitin a few years to broadcast to ?

Btw regarding that particular race: Considering how much they, and especially mr Hindhaugh were opposing the Bahrain GP weekend and how they even stongly refused to talk about the race afterwards (rightly so I might add), RLM will be extremely hypocritcal if they go there to cover the WEC race - or even broadcast it from home. ACO would slap them in the face but at least they'd follow their hearts and not feed the public relation needs of Bahrainese government |

I was thinking the same and am wondering what their position is on it.
The only thing that really speaks in favour of them going to Bahrain is the fact that the WEC isn't such a global circus attracting mainstream media coverage, so therefore isn't being used as a tool to promote a "happy" and "united" Bahrain as F1 was. The context is a little different I think. |

That would be a very respectable decision and a proud move, IMHO. But we'll see what happens in few months time...

Just wondering if anyone knew what song was being played at the hourly updates at le mans? A bit of a catchy tune and heard it on top gear last night. Brings back memories of listening to the rlm crew.

Wonder if/when RLM will ever change their two songs - She Sells Sanctuary and Country Girl?
Would cause a decent amount of uproar I imagine, certainly the Cult. |

Well, they did dump 'She Sells' for the updates about 2 years ago and there was such uproar then they had to bring it back.....

The Cult kept me sane, one night. I left Cardiff at midnight, after dropping off no.1 son who'd been staying with me when covering Blancpain Silverstone, and I drove up to the top left corner of Wales, arriving at 4AM...
There must be sheep still bleating Sanctuary to themselves, the volume I had it at! Yes, I really AM a SOG* (*Sad Old Goth!) |
