IRL passes on Surfers

So will the ACO/LMS/ALMS try to pick up this venue?? It could fit in very well with the Asian Series, with a built-in promoter(?).

The IndyCar Series won't be returning to the Gold Coast in 2009.
Queensland Premier Ana Bligh announced Nov. 11 that event organizers - the Queensland government and entertainment/media giant IMG - and the Indy Racing League were unable to reach agreement on a long-term scheduling solution and financial terms.
The IndyCar Series made its debut on the streets of Surfers Paradise in late October as a non-points race won by Ryan Briscoe of Team Penske -- the first Australian to win in the event's 18 years (formerly sanctioned by CART and Champ Car). The Gold Coast event, along with the Edmonton race in July, was added to the schedule after the unification of North American open-wheel racing in February.

That ship has sailed. Surfer's has signed a five year contract with A1GP. (All the blather was only a ploy on the part of Surfer's in negotiations with the open wheel series, there was never any serious interest in the ALMS - though Don might have liked it.)

What could work extremely well would be a round of the World FIA GT series
on the Saturday before the Bathurst 1000, as a warm up before the top ten shootout.....

Now that would make one great double header of the weekend....

That would be awesome except for one thing...FIA GT would be faster then the V8 Supercars and Tony Cochrane wouldn't like that one bit!! lol

I'd prefer a stand alone round anyway with Australian GT, Carrera Cup and possibly F3 supporting (if FIA GT3 didnt follow the circus downunder).

I'll go out on a limb, and call this as stillborn in advance due to the global economy.

for a team like Toyota who want to win Le Mans would be an excellent opportunity to dispute this championship in order to gain experience for 2010.

the main goal of toyota: defeat Peugeot that perhaps win in 2009

Interesting thought.... but there is no Toyota... yet anyway... given the currently economic climate, don't bet on it.

Who else would enter this series? Do you see current LMS or ALMS entrants lining up to spend more money for what will basically be exhibition races?

Stand alone wouldnt be economically viable at Bathurst but if they combined with the 12hour weekend and dropped the crap supports...GT3 Cup Challenge, Aus GT, Sports Sedans and maybe a Marque Sports/Production Sports class....???
