It's a lot of everything - time, effort, money - for a name. I find it hard to believe that the development of the car isn't being hindered by this legal scuffle.

Yes Kudos to DSC (not for the first time either!) but one has to wonder if this displayed 'transparancy' by Kolles will go well with the selection committee - the ACO has not been overly fond of having these type of processes being executed in the public light. Although overall it's very much a twilight zone story! |

How difficult would it be to set up a new German company, as a car brand, and call it Kolles (or some other name that hasn't already been used or have a name trademarked to someone else)?
In the UK it's a surprisingly cheap and simple process to legally set up a company. Is it not so simple in Germany? Or would setting up Kolles as a car brand not satisfy those in charge of deciding who get to enter? |

That may be a hint why Kolles is wanting to go after the Vanwall brand. How much weight does a historical brand name carry with the selection committee? And if it does, why not making arrangements for a brand with historical ties to LM instead of F1? |

I can image setting up a brand is not enough but also must have plans for road cars.

No road car requirement, as clearly stated in the DSC article. However, Hypercar applicants are required to present the brand and its commitment to the WEC championship in a dossier. |

Maybe im barking up the wrong tree here but why is it so important for the ACO/WEC/FIA to have these smaller teams representing a brand? They have all the manufacturer entries, thats what they really need?

As demanded by the marketing officers of the competing manufacturers. Pretty similar to what IMSA is doing. |

But I do find it interesting that they only seem to care about this in one class, and P2 can all be the same car. |

Just for the record, I passionately disagree with both sanctioning bodies on their 'major constructors/brands/manufacturers-only policies'. Glickenhaus, ByKolles and Ginetta (to name a few) certainly add value to either/both championship(s). |

When their cars aren’t impounded.
That’s just a joke and in theory I agree with your stance. However, the premise here is by being more strict on this policy is one of the reasons they have Toyota, Peugeot, Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Caddy, Acura, Alpline, Lambo and Glickenhaus anyway. OK, maybe not all make it in the end, but whatever it’s more than they normally get! So what’s your choice? Risk that for ByKolles with everything else Mr Kolles bring with them, and Ginetta with everything they don’t bring (like a car)! |

Ferrari should be more worried about getting beaten by Toyota or Peugeot than occasionally ByKolles or Glickenhaus who both haven't got a marketing budget (or at least not substantial enough) to bother the big bosses in Milan.

Again, I agree where their priorities should lay.
But, the publicity comes mainly from the actual race and it’s result. Losing to Toyota is annoying, but explainable. Losing to ByKolles makes it a mockery for Ferrari. And for the others. At least in their eyes. Even without the chance of impounded cars. I’m just saying is I get why we are where we are. And I fully understand why the ACO would make the decision they have. |

This is also a consequence of BoP. Under 'normal' circumstances Ferrari or Toyota or whoever would never be beaten by ByKolles.

I don't feel BoP has anything to do with privateers like ByKolles getting the occasional win over Ferrari, Porsche, Toyota and the likes (if it happens at all!). It's a quality thing and we all know it - but larger manufacturers seem to have this Super David vs Goliath nightmare all this time and feel they have to act on their illusions. Just let it play out.
[WEC only] And free up a garage or two by putting the scrutineering area back in a trailer. Those come pretty fancy these days as well. Or maybe not in France? |
