Now, having tags is sensible, which we, in the UK, are not. In days gone by, every year you had to purchase a tax disc, a round piece paper printed with security features that demonstrated that, a) the car had passed it's annual safety test - required after 3 years from new - b) that at the time it was paid for, the car was insured and c) the end date for the tax paid.

I believe one of the reasons that the government agency felt that it was prudent to cease this practice was because most traffic police cars have automated number plate recognition technology installed, which warns the officer that a vehicle does not comply with all the rules and regulations. However, despite this and ever increasing number of similar cameras on UK roads, more and more motorists are chancing their luck and other peoples lives, by not bothering paying their road fund licences.

Unfortunately, because insurance premiums are increasing at pace, there are also more drivers uninsured. And far too often they also either have had no driving licence or they are banned from driving.

Or they oddly think US law applies to them in the UK and they aren't in commerce so they don't need it. More fun cause they get windows busted more than here about that but I'm sure they don't learn and buy another junker that wouldn't pass MoT

From 1956 to 2001 we had to buy a tag, called vignette here, at the beginning of the year one for each car owned. It was supposed to help and fund pensions… Yeah, yeah, sure! What a farce it was. But when they tried to apply the same to motorbikes, it became a different story, une autre limonade I'd say, bikers of all sort didn't appreciate. End of the story? Nooo, of course, we are professional moaners here and smart arses too. What happened is that many bikers fund what is called "Fédération des motards en colère" to protest. How to spot a motard en colère here? He buys a sticker to show how much he's angry at the gov and its fookin tag!

It's not the money, it's the misuse of money. They could have launched that sticker with a fake company, charged exactly the same amount as the "official" tag and tossed that money in the pot all the same. And then same objective completed and money raised

Very intersting point of view. Really. Misuse of public money is a religion here. Wish we have an official and efficient maffia now, our politicians are amateurs. And they aint cheap to produce and maintain, not cost effective as they say.

I see that crosses country lines and languages well. I always joke with folks here in Atlanta that I miss the old Mafia of New Jersey sometimes. May be corrupt but everyone knows I'm spending 10% more for government services but you know it's gonna work or someone is gonna disappear. We seem to always have someone busted for corruption lately AND nothing ever gets done in Atlanta. At least be corrupt but I know someone gonna get punished for screwing up and no trial to waste more money

Agree, I'm not a fan of chopped roof but that's partially a giant doesn't fit in normal roof lines and you've taken more away from me. The wheels ruined it for me though, they're just bad
