That would be nice. It's about time we see a proper tire war. Falken is down to 1 car and Dunlop foolishly dropped the BMW's despite that RLL program being the best thing to ever happen to them in sportscars. There is no competition in P2. Dunlop doesn't build a better tire than Michelin.
Michelin refused to build a proper P2 tire because P2 regulations say that a P2 tire supplier must share it's tires with the other manufacturers. Michelin knew that to give Dunlop a proper Michelin P2 tire would give away trade secrets in their GTE and LMP1 tires. |

But will it? McLaren hasn't said anything other than what's in their own news releases and haven't actually said what the image is of. Wait and see...

Yeah from what I gather I don't think this is a GTE. I'd be very happy to be wrong but still don't think the rules are where McLaren want them.

Probably more due to Pirelli having deal with Blancpain GT & BES as the sole tyre supplier. PWC has this too but is a small market for cars so no need tailor teasers specifically for it. The 12C GT3 was pretty simple compared to the road car to meet GT3 regulations. I assume any special stuff introduced on the 650S won't be legal either so this will probably just be a face lifted 12C GT3 in essence. |

Not surprised. I think it's a bit early for a GTE car to be unveiled after the GT convergence talks broke down (and McLaren would've known which way it was going to fall before it was public knowledge). It'll be an updated GT3 by my reckoning with the 650S taking over from the MP4-12C as McLaren's entry level road car and production of the latter has finished now. |

Yes, 650S GT3. However, all the design elements of the bodywork point to it also being capable of passing GTE regs with minimal mods (remove the fender vents and change the diffuser). So this could also be the basis for a GTE car to come...

And I guess the number "59" on the side might be a possible hint that McLaren might be targetting the GTE class in the future, isn't it ?

Or the fact their last sportscar to win Le Mans carried 59.

GT convergence is going to happen and it's going to come from the manufacturers, not the ACO. This is likely the first one to get this going.
The next year will be interesting, I would expect more to follow suit. |

The car has a 52mm "wider track" http://cars.mclaren.com/featured-art...ed-at-fos.html
I assume this is another step in the gte direction or based off the car for gte? The width of the gte cars are 2050mm-2100mm. The dimensions for the 12c gt3 is 1995mm wide. So ~2048mm width for this. |

204.7cm wide, 205cm allowed by LMGTE regulations.

this car is maybe the first real example of gt merded
650S GT3 = GT3 650S GT3 with different rear wing, diffuser and other details = GTE Would be amazing to see a 650S GTE at le mans already in 2015. Anyway, hope that mclaren updated the engine to make it last 24 hours for real. |
