It does seem odd that, with so many safety measures, cold tyres has been so rigidly enforced. I suspect if a couple of high-profile cold-tyre crashes happen at Le Mans that regulation may be swiftly amended.

Agreed, both those crashes have looked almost unavoidable.

They should put more sponsors on the safety cars and on the trucks picking up the broken cars.
They will be on TV for quite some time. |

Can someone please explain why cold tires are such a problem with WEC drivers when IMSA has had no tire warmers since the beginning and doesn't have the same crash rate. Is it track or driver related? Could it be an issue with the new hybrid gas/electric design? Weather/track temperatures?

Maybe it generally isn't as cold in IMSA?
If you look at the stands all people are wearing jackets because it is just cold outside. I don't know about the track temperature but outside it is just +/- 13 degrees Celcius. |

You're correct that generally IMSA races aren't as cold as Spa, but it should have been quite chilly at night during Daytona and there were only minor issues at this year's Rolex 24. Maybe because once you exit the Daytona pitlane you are in the relatively flat and slow Daytona infield vs going downhill into Eau Rouge?

Been pretty cold at Road Atlanta at night. In 2021 it was delayed until November due too scheduling changes with Le Mans. It got quite cold at night and the exit from the pits is not into a slow straight. Still no issues. I wonder if it's just what the drivers have gotten use to and adapted to the conditions.

On the whole that was a good one. P2 and GT-Am stepped up. Will be kinda sad to see a third class disappear next year as we'll lose an entire race within the race - especially when Toyota are comfortable at the top of Hypercar.

The race was good in LMP2 and GTE, and once more not so interesting in Hypercar.
I have a feeling the LM 24 race will be a big disappointment, much promise and huge expectations and just the same old... |

Sorry what do you mean by losing a class? I thought LMP2 was remaining and GTE being replaced with GT3?

That's a pity because some of the best racing is there.
(in LMP2) At least that category is unpredictable and there are lots of cars that can win or at the very least finish on the podium. |
