To me, the Ford Ranger T6 looks exactly like any other Japanese pickup truck.

That is a classic American pickup truck look. Definitely one for the enthusiasts. Can see them queuing up for this with all it's extra features to boot. Won't take over the pickup truck market, but will offer something different from the norm

It's a VERY interesting proposal. It's Ford's version of the Honda Ridgeline, it's a car chassis with some tweaks. It's going to be mainly FWD from Ford's estimates with AWD optional (2k vs 4k towing so that's a driver for AWD) and is targeting those who may have purchased a compact car/sedan.

For me the biggest thing is they have learned from the Ranger/Tacoma/Colorado and the 6' high bedsides. It will be lower and much more accessible from the outside and better visibility than the new "compact" truck bedsides. It's interesting and see a huge market for it with fleet for private and government purchase. Whether it will sell to the regular car buyer is debatable but 32k worth of Honda Ridgelines isn't to be ignored with a Ford badge.

Ram does need to reply with a smaller truck. Ford now has 2 smaller and GM one, with Hyundai bringing a cruck to market too.

Is it certain that this model won't be super high like the Ranger? I always thought it was odd to offer a smaller truck that was so tall!

It really is surprising Ram haven't followed the trend (thus far) with the smaller truck. It would sell in the US for sure.

From the dimensions given to the auto writers and visibilty lines, no it will be MUCH lower. A FX4 Ranger bed is higher than my truck, I've parked next to a few and wondered how they get so little truck in so much space.

Especially given the Gladiator was developed from a plan for a new Dakota first. Supposedly, if you believe Allpar, who is generally considered to be in the know even if less than in the past, the Gladiator project was likely to spin off a Ram until someone got the idea it would cut Ram sales and their climb to outsell the GM twins so that was stopped. And Jeep got their hairs in a twist about sharing but frankly eff them and their egos. It's not a Jeep when the mirrors are mounted on the door and the windshield doesn't even pretend to fold anymore so shut your faces. Oh, and a stock Macan or Cayenne destroyed your beloved Rubicon's time on multiple Jeep trails, with a Porsche exec at the wheel for the Cayenne.

They move to the Ram style multi-link with coil or airbags at the rear. And no single cab long box truck any longer, in fact no single cabs to be made at all for them, under 1% of their sales so they had to go

2022 Ford Ranger arrives with new look and engine options





'The new-look Ranger has been styled with nods to Ford’s American-market F-150 large pick-up and new Bronco SUV. It’s 50mm wider, giving it a broader stance, which is enhanced by a larger radiator grille with a horizontal bar that incorporates the Ford badge and extends across the front to the new “C-clamp” daytime running lights.' A new 3.0-litre diesel V6 has been added to the ranks, too, and while it has yet to be officially detailed, it will no doubt tout performance statistics to trump the 210bhp and 367lb ft of torque currently available in today’s most powerful Ranger. A turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine will also be sold in some markets.

Ford has also confirmed that the new Ranger will be available with an electrified drivetrain, although it has offered no further details on specification or timeframe. The company will make its European commercial vehicle line-up zero-emissions-capable by 2024, so a plug-in hybrid is the most likely format for the Ranger, and various reports suggest it will be based around the 2.3-litre Ecoboost engine.'

The main change will be the width, to bump the between-wheelarches dimension over 4 feet. I wouldn't expect length or height to be much different but the wheelbase is longer.

Well it has done so well Ford is stopping orders for them until May or possibly later. Average selling price in the 20s can't be hurting things either since the Ranger is barely cheaper than an F150 these days. It's not chips but rather just pure assembly time and parts ordering.

Actually saw a Maverick on the road today, first thought was damn that's the right size for a Ranger 2wd pickup. Looked decent.

Also saw my first Rivian RT1 truck this afternoon. Looks like the pictures, didn't quite sound as "electric" as Audi does

I saw a Rivian a few weeks ago... I'm by no means against electric trucks but no one seems to have the answer of what the range is with 6,000lbs in tow or 1,500 lbs payload of that $80k truck is. And because of my job, I really can't go electric until I can make a 700-800 mile single day road trip including recharging.

Looks like the Honda photocopies are working well at Geely there, lots of Ridgeline in that design, maybe a bit of US VW front end as well, but mostly new Ridgeline to my eyes
