And here I was thinking it would be SRO v Oreca but it appears that it's more the FFSA that Oreca are angry with.

Seeing a) how close Oreca seem to be with the ACO and b)how eager SRO seems to capitalize on Oreca's miss-fortunes, I really can't see them working together anytime soon.
Furthermore, a joint venture only makes sense if both sides bring something to the table that the other lacks and I don't really see that either. |

It really surprises me that a country like France can't sustain a top-level touring car series and a GT championship. The UK and Germany both do (the latter supports two touring car championships if you count DTM). Either way, the current situation in France isn't working, so something needs to change, and Stéphane Ratel is your man for thriving GT championships.

The fun continues - Endurance Info just released an interview with Hugues de Chaunac on the subject. I've (google) translated (and cleaned up) some key quotes:

According Sportscar365 Bentley was testing its twin-turbo V8 GT3 engine in a Ginetta LMP3 car earlier this month for the back-burner DPI projet.
Could this Ginetta LMP3-Bentley will be racing in another series? and in Which? V de V? British Dunlop Prototype Series? http://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/be...rams-for-2017/ |

At a guess this Bentley test mule will probably never partake in a race but will pound out heaps of laps on a test track so can't see it in a actual race meeting. |

Not a bad entry list for the first round of Italian GT:
http://acisportitalia.it/public/2016...ti_cigt_v1.pdf GT4 with only one car, but that's supposedly due to a number of Caymans GT4 not being delivered yet, so there should be some growth for the second round at Imola. Unfortunately there'll be separate races for SGT3 + GT3 and the Cup classes. At least at Monza they could easily have run them in a combined field. |

More worrying news from France. Last time we heard about GT-Tour, Hughes de Chaunac had promised to put together a better field for the second round of the season at Ledenon in June. Apparently he wasn't very successful in doing so, as recent rumors suggest that the GT/LMP race there might be cancelled:

Sounds like an early end for the current series.
I bet the new for 2017 SRO series will do a curtain raiser towards the end of the year, possibly as a support race for one of their Blancpain events? |

I don't think that would work, too many French teams in Blancpain that you'd want in the national series. Also, the new series is rumored/supposed to have a significant GT4 component.

Looks like Ratel is looking at a GT4-based series for France:
http://www.endurance-info.com/fr/ste...enie-pour-sro/ Interesting tid-bit: More manufacturers are supposedly poised to enter GT4 in 2018. |

Dutch Supercar Challenge has dropped* their ailing "Super GT" class over the winter. Here's the entry list for the series' first race under the new class structure:
http://www.momeprom.com/Racinglife.n...es-2017-V2.pdf Doesn't look too bad and the top-class is actually not the Porsche benefit that I had expected it to be. *technically not 'dropped', but rather outsourced to the new Prototype>-Challenge, where they will race with the LMP3s,CNs and Radicals. |
