Was also a heavy investor in Super Touring in this country back in the day, and in particular, the Audi-backed effort. |

Most teams have simply given up on any sort of development program for major components. Chassis are out sourced as are engines and aero. Do teams today have the development capabilities teams had in the 80's and 90's? Could a team like BJR develop and new aero / engine / driveline combination even if they used COTF as the basis of development? |

Bit ironic that someone who dropped big coin into ST is now calling for V8s to stay |

These days parts can be designed *and* optimised^ virtually on inexpensive workstation computers. ^ using ANSYS etc style simulation programs for fluid mechanics and solid mechanics, which very easily tell you where can remove unnecessary material and conversely weak points were you need to add material. Likewise suspension settings could be pre-prepared using simulators like rFactor Pro. Whereas in the old days I expect things would be designed more from "first principles" (with a slide rule as Mr Crompton would say!) and there would be a lot more physical trial and error via on-track testing. Of course the more senior engineers may lament new timers who (may) lack common sense and the ability to apply first principles... I do think the lack of on track testing days (and new tyres) available is a problem though... |

Can't really afford to limit the engine options as they need the gates wide open for new manufacturers to view the series as an option. Personally I feel the impact of the gradual introduction of smaller capacity engines on the viewer-base to be overblown, though the proof will need to be in the pudding there. Besides, Supercars is already looking further into the future at Hybrids. Can't run V8's forever, the series will have to adapt at some stage.

One for the Whincup haters:
http://v8sleuth.com.au/news/2018/03/...-to-abrupt-end Jamie had his first DNF in 26,023km of on-track running! That is something exceptional. 136 races without a DNF, 41 above the next highest from any other driver. Greatest of All Time is a loaded discussion but he keeps racking up stunning numbers. |

Consistency wins championships, that's why he and his team is and will always be at or near the top.

Erebus plans to stick with V8 Commodore for 2019
Financially this is a smart decision at least for the short term |

Anyone else thinking we're more likely to see the Dragon Motorsport Indy Car program than the V6TT?

I know we bang on about market relevance and all of that, but I don't think it's in the best interests of the sport itself, regardless of what Holden wants.
To convert 14 or so ZBs to V6TT is going to be a costly excercise for the teams, not to mention ruffling the feathers of the fanbase. Sure, a lot of people want to see how it'd compare, but I really don't think it's a great idea in the grander scheme of things. |

I think it would be good to have both, hopefully some performance benefits for the V6TT at some points at some circuits, while the V8 has some benefits elsewhere. As close as we are going to get to replicate the days of Commodores pulling away from M3's down Conrod/Mountain Straight only to have the M3's catching up again under brakes
