Sure is pretty and nice to hear, ok is a brand new car but rebellion need to find soon performance! #12 has been less than a second faster than the best lmp2. In F2 had just 5-7km/h of better top speed than audi in HD package

Testing in Public, with a brand new car was never going to be easy, especially at Spa. They just need to ensure they get some miles on the clock tomorrow.

They will get better but for this even for them its just about doing laps, it will be a major triumph for them if they get to the first pit stop without any problems.

Best hope for Audi is that they're car is more consistent over a run and easier on their tires. We saw at Spa last year that the LM spec Toyota ate up it's tires basically after one stint.
Could this be like the R15 where Audi gambled on a ALMS-type downforce package that doesn't suit European tracks? |

Point is that low downforce doesn't help with tirewear, especially in sector 2 and Spa is more abrasive than Silverstone was.
But right now, that seems to be Audi's saving grace unless they're sandbagging. Laptime is there probably in race trim, but it's how they're getting the laptime that might not help them much. |

Audi arent immune to tire issues. Isnt that what killed their race in Silverstone? Theres nothing suggesting any team has a tire wear advantage. If its dry tomorrow, tire life is a brand new factor.

It's Spa in the spring time - a dry race is something not even Ayse could pull through

Rain tires vs slicks isn't a tire abuse issue. Running low downforce does make a car skid more in corners. That's what killed Porsche's performance at Silverstone, where Audi and Toyota drove away from them early on in the dry.
If Audi can make their tires last longer, that'll be their ace in the hole, but if that's the card they want to play, they'd better play it well, because even if they run the same laptime in race trim as everyone else, it's still easier to pass down a straight than in a corner. Audi can't afford to be just a little faster in sector two, they have to be a lot faster to get back what they lose in sectors 1 and 3. They are a lot faster in sector 2, but not enough to do more than draw even. |

Spa is less severe in cornering than Silverstone. I would say whoever has consistent stints and gets through traffic best will be the winner. Top speed cant be a harm either.

Pool last year 1.59.9 Audi diesel, this year 2:01.1 Porsche petrol ... Audi best time in 2014 2:02.2 ( more than 2 sec difference) ... Audi engine is practically identical (should be more powerful), car lighter, aeros more developed, but fuel flows not identical (clear bias), they are struggling VERY BADLY ( hope FIA/ACO sees this and applies the same swift correction measures that they always did since 2007 ... Audi and who cares for fairness better sit down with the waiting LOL ) Best petrol 2013, Toyota 2:00.947 ... 2014 Toyota 2:01.832 ... probable due to the semi wet conditions and cold (low adherence), since "top speeds" are higher... only Audi is quite lower everywhere. To me, the qualifying today had the excitement of an entire raced condensed into 30 minutes.
Quality and historic happenings real-time. |

Historic ? .. some ole same ole returned... used to be quite excited by the time of the Lotus F1 with squirts, then the Brahman F1 Turbo, then the diesels complete smashes at LM... those were the historic moments (INNOVATION).
Ok, the Hybrid fashion is exciting to see where it goes, how it can evolve... but to me when something is not really *free* it loses most of its flavor. |
