Oh dear.

It is a public road circuit.

A street circuit is different. Surfers Paradise is a street circuit.

None of the public roads that make up the Mount Panorama circuit remotely resemble streets.

Some people can't cope with Chevy badges on Holdens. I feel the same way about Mt Panorama being refered to as a street circuit.

I see it as a race track you can drive on most of the year.

Pretty much in the same vein as the Le Man's circuit, who's French name escapes me right now.

Speed limit of 60 kmh, public residences on both sides of a track. sounds like a street to me, but its a suburban street, not a city street

A street circuit is a race track made up of temporarily closed-off public roads. That is exactly what mt panorama is.

Not sure why anyone would try and deny it

feel free to go and change wiki though if you truly believe its not a street circuit

I guess there is some differentiation as its a permanent circuit - rather than the build up / build down nature of other street circuits - such as surfers, canberra etc.

I understand what you are saying but also see the other side aswell.

Not denying it, just using the correct terminology.

Certainly none of the literature published on the circuit that I am aware of refers to it as a street circuit.

It would need to be rather more built up to be a street.

sorry, the term you used is a public road circuit, that means its a street circuit.

There is no such thing as a public road circuit, as that is what a street circuit is

If you are going to argue differently then Clipsal is not a street circuit, its a parkland circuit with some streets, you cant drive the whole clipsal circuit, Same with Albert Park, no houses at all on the albert park circuit, both these circuits have permanent racing infrastructure (pit building) on it, same as Mt Panorama

I could be swayed by the argument that Albert Park is not a street circuit.

But to say there is no such thing as a public road circuit beggars belief, unless you disregard years of writings by Jenkinson, Young, Court, Saward, Tuckey, Green, etc.

All of these gentlemen have refered to the great circuits of Le Mans, Spa and others, including Bathurst, as public road circuits and not as street circuits.

But now I know they (and I) are wrong.

and its fine to term it a public road circuit, but a public road circuit is a street circuit, Public road circuit its just a more descriptive term for a type of street circuit.

So a purpose built circuit is now a street circuit?
Yes it may be open for the public to drive on but that was the only way they secure the money to build it.
It's a 100% purpose built motorsport facility that happens to be open to the public for a majority of the year.

That is true however they pushed the coverage via their Facebook and twitter mediums, which was shared and retweeted by teams.

Outside of having a better presence on their website for tv programming - I am not sure what more GT management could here to promote it?

Its not in Channel 7's interest to promote the coverage.......................yet.

surely though it is in there interest.

They have invested in the 12 hour, surely this is an opportunity to promote the 12 hour by attracting an audience for the gt series

Two of the remaining 3 rounds are at v8 weekends, so they have access to the footage

of course , its quite possibly the gts will be on ten next year

Still lots of possibilities for next year Pecky - which explains why 7 wouldnt be in a position to promote a 30min highlights on 7mate extensively.

Remember too, that the Bathurst 12 Hour and Australian GT Championship are completely independent of each other (something which is apparently lost upon James Warbutton).
