if an ex-officail of nz deerstalkers, can't identify his target (on the err of caution) at 17m, there jack-all hope for 'goatboys' fathers antics...........sad but true

Back on topic...
One of the stumbling blocks to kissing and making up with classes that have 'broken away' is that the decision has been made to revert to a 'summer series' format last seen 15+ years ago. Argue the pros and cons of having a compact series jammed into 2 1/2 months as you will. (I'm sure it best suits Toyota who import their seat fillers.) For domestic motorsport to be recognised as mainstream sport it requires year round visibility. Since the target has always been to attract large sponsors that genuinely aim to get value from motorsport as a promotional activity, it requires events spread throughout the year. By keeping a trickle of information flowing the fans remained interested and engaged. I agree with much of what Greg L has said (not all). I believe that as a gentleman who has seriously put his money where his mouth is over the many years of his involvement we shouldn't ignore him out of hand. Do motorsport fans actually care if something is oficially sanctioned and the winner is a national champion? My belief is that quality entertainment is the greater appeal. Championship classes can be good entertainment but good entertainment doesn't need to be a championship. |

I wouldn't be surprised if the people who find MSNZ Championships most important are those who get dressed up in their fancy clothes once a year and hand out or receive the trophies. The on-track and off-track spectators probably don't place much importance on Championship status - they would rather see a good grid with close competitive racing. At the moment MSNZ seem fixated with Tier 1 and it's Gold Star Championship status even though this means dishing out some sparse grids of mediocre quality. |

so why didn't they quit before the s*#t hit the fan??
then we would have the ONE V8 class that was meant to be, and aligned to AVSC, instead of a fractionalised mess that we currently have. |
