At this point I consider #6 Porsche the winner regardless. I think IMSA is in the wrong here. They are not looking good here right now.

Anyone know how the Vette went from first to third in a lap? We were in the outer loop and never heard what happened. NBC didn't include that in their youtube highlights.

Lexus got a run on the Vette off the toe of the boot, I believe, and got the Vette at the heel (again, irrc). Ferrari followed through. Not surprised the highlights missed it. They had been mostly ignoring the GT field in their coverage for the better part of the day, but were at least covering this battle at the end.

And at that point, Garcia was a sitting duck with their pace, so I'll take a podium on a day when they weren't the quickest.

Just Came Back

I did not go to see ALMS/IMSA race in person since 2013 until Watkins Glen. I followed this since 1997 and started going to races in 2000.

The race itself and the cars were surprisingly very good.
It has potential, but there were problems.

This is no longer the 2000's era with welcomeness.
Teams felt snobby and closed off giving me a bit of Scott Tucker feel minus K9 dogs.
IMSA can not officiate a race. You have to be either scared or stupid to let GT start in that case.
IMSA can not run IMPOUND. Hilarious chaos and mismanagement let to some bizarre things happening at IMPOUND.
Poison type of food. Uneatable anything. Huge lost opportunity.
Poverty in USA (I knew this way before). Huge difference between regular people and teams. This was not the case.
Beyond stupid way to purchase parking ticket at the gate if you are there for the first time as a customer. I have never seen anything like this.
Almost all customers were Boomers and GenX. This form of racing wont' be here in 15 years. Young people were simply not there.

Wakings Glen lovely as usual. I only raced there and never did I watch a race, so a nice change for me. It's huge. I did not manage to lap it during 6 hours lol.

* things change every decade but the difference between 2001 Panoz LMP1 team let me hang out with them for 2 hours after the race, or Paul Gentilozzi allowing any kid to jump into his GT2 car ,and now is night and day.

** I saw rude ignorant drivers to some young people that wanted to say hi and congratulate them. Tons of people with no character. Weird.

In the beginning it was all laid back and chill. I don't think this will attract young people at all.

Wow, so you went to one event with what appears to be a bad attitude to start and then found what you were looking for to crap on a series? Yeah, that checks out.

And sounds zero like any one else has found, what most of the TV coverage shots of crowds at any race show and what any of us have seen at Road Atlanta.

Actually, this sounds to me like another of the "ALMS vs Grand Am" warriors, whom think that ALMS couldn't do anything wrong, even as at times they did for everyone to see. Evidently, this person seems to be pining for "the good old days", under the guise of criticizing present day racing. Yes, Paul Gentilozzi was a good person when it came to interacting with the fans, but especially the Jaguar GT team, they were awful, to the point that every race they would give us new examples of how to totally screw up a race. They were more comic relief than an actual racing team.
The reason as to why it had a preponderance of 'boomers and gen-x'ers is because they have paying jobs that can afford them to attend such events. Remember, the folks that stage these events have people to pay and things to pay for, as this is the way of anything in a capitalist society.
The belief that " young people" either choosing to attend racing events depends on that persons interest rather than an age or generational grouping. They could be stock car or drag racing, or even drift racing enthusiasts, but that doesn't preclude them from going.
By the way, the avatar I have is of me at the 2002 ALMS Cadillac DC Grand Prix, which I attended the entire weekend. Pit/paddock passes included, so that I could not only walk around, but also meet and greet with many teams, drivers, and even such folks as the one in the picture. I do believe you know whom HE is...

Been a while since I've been to the Glen, but I've gone to Road Atlanta for over two decades. None of the issues you're talking about pertain to there. Lots of younger folks, decent food, great visibility to the teams and cars (especially during grid walk), true professionalism with IMSA and teams. Although it could have been the Burbon that gave me that perspective.

Watkins Glen results are official. IMSA heard and overruled Penske's appeal and their penalty stands. #25 BMW is the official winner.
