The 51 Ferrari and the 6 Porsche were leading but made a strategy blunder failing to pit under the virtual safety car with 90 minutes remaining. So they fell behind the 5 Porsche, the 8 Toyota and the 15 BMW after the final fuel stops cycled through and they needed full tanks of fuel. Not that any of this mattered. Fuel pump problem that got worse and worse until he couldn't pass GT3 cars. They decided to retire.

Campbell had "just" 3 new medium tires put on at the last stop. This doesn't account for the 2 seconds a lap rate at which Buemi caught him after the stops. The 51 Ferrari and the 6 Porsche also took new tires. No one has set a lap within 1 second of Buemi's best.

I was going to point that out too. They have fresh medium tires on the #8 for Buemi. But Toyota hasn't had this pace advantage for the entire race.

Judging by the tyre lap data I'm not sure they were new?

Ant on comms keeps referring to an app to look at the tyre info. Is that publicly available?

It looks like laps from qualifying. In the graphic that was shown up, there was ~5 laps difference. It doesn't account for 1-2 seconds a lap in my opinion. The 7 car was already faster when it was working earlier today. Remember that the 7 car dropped 10 seconds, and then drove back to the lead before the issues recurred and they eventually retired.

The 5 was using a lot of tyres the entire race. Without those safety cars that would've worked I think. Pretty much what happened there imo, with equal tyres to the 8 Campell could've had a more fair fight.

I'm not saying that Toyota doesn't have a BOP advantage, they do and not a small one. But tyres made a difference too.

Wow, did not expect that result. Good job by the #8 on the drive back. Glad Peugeot got a 4th place. Great job to Porsche for taking the drivers title.
