This could be the largest group of ARGO atlantic cars ever entered in a race. #27 is JM5-036FA, #16 is JM9-056FA and #17 is JM11-065FA. Photo taken in1987 at Portland Oregon, USA.

Great pics there Joe. The Nugent car, -044, was a JM5 not a JM8. You can see its very like the red -036 one. JM9 -056 is ex-Tyrrell Arnold I think.

ARGO factory
Before the Christmas stuff went back into storage I brought out some of my ARGO info. Photo taken at factory spring 1981. Seat fitting in one of the two atlantic JM9s built, either 056 or 057. I can't remember the names of the people, anybody recognize them?

The blue #44 has an Anglia Cars Serial plate stamped JM8, now Argo did go on to build other JM8's very different from the #44 blue Atlantic. The tub of the blue Nugent car #44 has spars extending from the tub back along side the BDA. The red car the Rackham/Blackwell #36 JM5 has no spars just trailing links and the tub is wider than the top body work, both cars share the same F3 body work. As James has posted we also owned a JM9 Atlantic and a JM11 Atlantic and this past winter we resurected JM16 number 101 the GTP car from 1984 built for Don Bell and powered with a Buick V6. Oh and our god son is working on a JM14 FC car, and God only knows what serial number they gave it, no marks anywhere log book doesn't say just calls it a Argo JM14 year og mfg. 1984.

Mike Nugent's Argo
Just like a few of you guys, I too was looking through some old photos and documentation over the Christmas break and I came across some of my Dad's old racing folders. So I though I would do a search and came up with this forum
I will speak with Mike (dad) over the next coming days and get the correct facts on the Chassis model and various other details, as from the various threads I have been reading this is causing some debate. Would anyone have contact details or be able to point me in the direction of Jim Burnett, whom I understand still has the Argo. I know Mike would certainly love to get in contact with him. We still even have some spares in the garage for the Argo. Ryan N |

That'd be great Ryan, love to hear your Dad's views on the Argo, and Irish FAt in general.

Mike Nugent
In Mike Kettlewell’s Second Motor Racing Directory (1981) there is a short biography of Mike Nugent from which the following quote is taken. “An Argo JM3 was acquired for 1979, but it was not too successful until properly developed in time for the 1980 season in conjunction with Argo. Mike called his car a ‘JM8’ although this number is allocated to the 1981 Formula 3 model. He won the Irish Formula Atlantic Championship.” [9 wins, 2 seconds, 2 thirds racing that season on 3 circuits in Ireland and at Donington Park]

The JM14s weren't numbered in the same series as the rest of Argo chassis - I think because they were built by another company for Argo. So whereas the Argo numbers are sequential regardless of model, the JM14 is numbered within the model.
Thanks to Alan Brown making some chassis observations in 1982 and with some careful reading of the press I've been able to work out some of who used what chassis in 1982-84 and there were at least 6 JM14s built in 1982. Chris |

Thats interesting Chris.I know of 2 Jm14 mine and another on the hills somewhere. I was sure all the rest were JM14B's. Argo made some JM14B's for the states and were imported but named Royale's.You know that story Kev

Ian
We know that Mark Galvin had 14-03 in 1984 [tho that might be 14B-03] Tony Reid noted with chassis number JM14-5 in 1982, this perhaps the ex Reid JM14 that went to Meurig Roberts in 1984 Neil Betteridge used chassis JM14-6, entered by HART, in 1982. I suspect that the 14Bs were updates of existing chassis rather than completely new cars, so it might well be that yours is one of only two original spec cars. BTW do you think we should do a Delta thread? - there are quite a few chassis out there and quite a few records for period chassis numbers |

Well if it was'nt you must of been Marcus Pye. World would be a poorer place Kev if you did'nt say anything.FYI My blue and yellow Delta is the ex Mike White and i have sold Paul Smith's "BMTR" ex Delta to Japaneese driver who is going too run with us this year..Also we are sure that my JM14 is the car that Damon Hill drove at Brands in his first single seater race.

Argo spares
Het drifty, maybe this guy is worth a try? If you ever need help with a U.S. deal, I'll help if I can. I don't have connections, but the offer is there just the same. Cheers.
