CN's up to 2017 in AsianLMS
http://sportscar365.com/asian-lms/se...-through-2017/ Maybe they should do the same for ELMS and only introduce LMP3 when they also renew LMP2? Plenty of CN's around in Europe. Just would be nice to have an alternative, cheaper engine ... |

Mike Fuller just tweeted that he saw a rendering of a new LMP3 from Riley. Should be interesting. I asked Elkins a couple weeks ago about the category and he said they were watching its progress. With Riley in the mix, perhaps it will speed up things on this side of the pond.

I agree. That is what lites should be. Multiple chassis' and same engine. it would be cool if the tub was able to be used for a team to step up with engine changes and such.

as for the corvette DP teams, i can see TUSC allowing them to use C7 corvette bodywork over LMP2 carbon tubs, not unlike DTM. obviously TUSC will balance the aero to keep their beloved "corvette DPs" competitive... |

so, the aco have explained their vision for the 2015 lmp3 class.
initial observations are that to an old single seater cynic, most of the cliches and buzzwords on the new series bingo sheet were present, including cheap spare parts and low cost chassis. the one thing that said to me that they're serious and might actually have something that ends up being cost effective is that the engine and gearbox is to last more than a full season of racing - expected lifespan before rebuild is 10,000km. that's usually where all these ideals fall over, and if they do indeed have six manufacturers seriously interested in producing a car for that control engine and gearbox they could really be onto something. there's some interesting common sense stuff too - it's a heavy car but by making it heavy the need for silly expensive light materials is minimised. and to help gentleman drivers power steering will be compulsory. not least because most single seater series are struggling for competitors, and for €110-130,000 (projected) per driver you can't get very far. going to be following this concept and the developments closely. |

The concept art doesnt look too bad. The car looks like a small lmp2. Hopefully making it coupe only wont be a problem for the constructors and they can build cars according to the cost cap (reports indicate the cost cap will be an issue for them but i dont know where i read it) Because of the new tire and cockpit dimensions and bhhs, seems like the chassis needs to be heavily modified, so new cars need to be built from scratch. http://www.endurance-info.com/fr/lac...tegorie-lm-p3/ http://sportscar365.com/lemans/elms/...lass-for-2015/ http://www.lemans.org/wpphpFichiers/...ss-release.pdf Last edited by lms; 19 Jul 2014 at 12:53. |

if there's that many constructors interested then the cost cap won't be an issue. if it was an issue, then nobody would be interested.
in my unwise, misjudged opinion, what's more significant here is that it represents a bit of a change in attitude. depending on what 'low cost spares' actually means, it could signify a huge change in chassis manufacturer attitude. historically that's where a lot of the (in single seaters at least) cost of designing the blimmin' thing is recouped, and let's be real - where there's a low maintenance car, the only way you can generate some spending through your spares department is by making it really difficult to drive and selling a lot of bodywork and suspension... i think it's sneaky by the aco too - getting constructors involved at this basic stage could entice some more into lmp2, especially if the absolute basic details of the tub are the same. perhaps the biggest problem will be finding enough gentleman drivers to get involved - i'm not totally sure if there's going to be a young driver market for it. also something i'm not sure about is where lmp3 will fit in with laptimes - perhaps it's an indicator that lmp2 will be sped up a bit. |

Since the LMP3 class will have restrictive specifications, right down to the engine, I guess there's no room for something less that 8-cylinders.
Speaking of 8-cylinders, I think the Chevy V8 engine that powers the LMPC cars will be sticking around, only in de-tuned form. |

It seems that they are going to use the same size of tyres of the Porsche Cup, the LMP3 will look much better than the CN cars.

Should they have gone for "LMP2 lite"? LMP2 chassis open or closed with some cost reduction measures and the LMPC drive train? So basicly LMPC but also Zytek, Oak, ... chassis instead of just the Oreca

It's not Monte or any other ACO guy that will decide the fate of P3, but Eric VdeV... Should he decide to adopt P3 for his series (and there are some indications that he might) that'd be a huge shot in the arm for the class.
