Obviously WSR were hoping they could run Colin that year, after all they did register his name alongside Collard and Neate. But I do wonder if they had chosen Colin instead of Rob, if Rob would have gone off somewhere else? RML? I would have loved to have seen that team of Plato and Collard that year

Was Simon Hill ever supposed to drive the AMD Golf at some point? 2010 or 2011, before Shaun Hollamby retired and signed TOC?

Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and Mark Blundell were all linked to MG (and Peugeot in Hill and Mansell's cases) at some point during the 2001-2003 period.

A rumour from Portugal once linked the late Colin McRae to the stillborn Super 2000 Nissan Primera in 2004.
Wasn't this meant to be a joke or something like that? |

Harry's last year in the BTCC with the Lacetti, he mentioned in an interview on Donington circuit PA that Warren Hughes was coaching him and they were very close to getting him in a second car before the end of the 09 season. Didn't happen.
This implies Warren Hughes was in the frame to make a return as Bamboo's second driver in 2009. They also hoped to run two cars in 2010 until they joined the WTCC. |

1997 RAC Tourist Trophy:
There were other notable entries on the list that never made it to the race, with Jamie Spence entered in a Toyota Corolla by RouseSport that failed to make it to the grid. Peugeot had entered its BTCC duo of Tim Harvey and Patrick Watts, but did not show up for the race, despite a competitive showing in the Bathurst 1000 race a couple of weeks earlier. Also, Tim Sugden was a last-minute replacement for Ian Heward and Tomas Johansson was supposed to be team-mate to Jan Brunstedt. Watts was also the original intended driver for the Toyota Corolla in the 1998 BTCC. |

Jonathan Cocker was linked to WSR for 2016.
Dan Cammish also tested for WSR but only as a stand-in for Sam Tordoff. |

James Thompson drove the original GPR Motorsport Toyota Avensis NGTC car in the practice sessions only at the 2010 BTCC finale. Would have been interesting if he'd done what Andrew Jordan did at Silverstone this year with the Corolla Hybrid.

Bryce Wilson was Nissan's test driver in the late 1990s (Supertouring era) and intended to test the infamous IF Motorsport Abarth Grande Punto ahead of the 2010 Season.

Jonathan Adam tested the Motorbase Ford Focus ahead of a possible return as the team's 3rd driver in 2011. Of course, that role ended up being shared between Michael Caine and Jimmy T.
Nick Tandy also tested for Motorbase in 2011 and again in 2013 with the possibility of racing for them at some point in the latter season. |

Also Sugden drove the Mint Motorsport Cavalier, which was driven during the season by Jamie Wall. Heward drove an older Cavalier for ProMotor Sport that year |

Tony Hughes originally intended to hire Dave Newsham as his team-mate at Speedworks for 2011. Newsham would eventually drive for Speedworks in 2013.

After winning the 2019 TCR UK title, James Turkington was rumoured to be in the frame for joining his brother Colin in the BTCC for 2020, most notably the 2nd TPC Racing Audi alongside Bobby Thompson but that seat went to James Gornall.
