I will reserve appointing any blame for the last incident until I see it, but in all of that Jan never put Joerg off or into a wall! So the petty bs remark, is just that!

I guess you missed the bit where Jan used Joerg as a brake for the final corner then?

I did not deny contact, did you see it? If he was put off how could he have won? You cannot justify putting someone into the wall because there was contact. That is purely asinine!

Vette Strategist to Mag: "Hit them! HIT THEM! HIT THEM"

Vette Strategist in post race interview: "Well, we are not sure who started that. We really need to review the tapes before we can comment."

Maybe he just couldn't take the heat? Or maybe he was looking for another shortcut across pit lane.

Did the Vette hit the lizards? Honestly, I am not sure.. you see... I lost track what the Vettes hit that race... I dare you to count.
All the chaos and collisions the vettes caused earlier in the race aside, The Radio Le Mans announcers saw it many times in the last few laps... and in the final turn. They were siding with Berg all they way. The crash into the wall is not cool, but I don't think Berg intended that it go that far.

Lesson to Mag... playing rough goes both ways. If you start a fight... don't cry to mommy if you get knocked out.

THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FOR PUTTING SOMEONE INTO THE WALL, PERIOD! You can play all your silly little games you want. That boat don't float!

How about for trying to punt someone off the track on the last corner of the race?

The issue here is that I don't think Berg was thinking "wow... I think I will put Mags in the wall and try to kill him."

Imagine driving. Someone smashes into you form behind... you loose control for a moment. Next thing they are muscling past you on the final stretch. Naturally you give some back... swerve into them. Fight fire with fire.

The thing here was that the Vette got stuck between a hard place and a better driver/car. It was a bad outcome... Berg was saying that he was still shaking in a post-race interview. You would be too if some thug tried to bash you from behind.

The Vettes played with fire... and got knocked out.

The issue here is that the Vettes are getting a thug reputation in my mind. Remember what they did to Risi not too long ago? "Oops did we try to run into the side of your car as it passed us?."

Moreover... a bad president has been set in GT2... first Risi/Melo... now the vettes. Racing needs to have some civility to it.

Let me re-phrase that... agreeing with you is fundamental... otherwise your personal attacks come out.

As you are a model reader, you will know that we both agree that putting someone into a wall is not a good thing. My point is that Berg's intention was not to put anyone in the wall. He was just returning the favor, and a wall happened to be there.

I am just happy that the car that chose to start and play rough did not win in the end.

It is too bad that Mags had to resort to that level of desperation. Makes me wonder if finesse could have won them the race.

If the difference between, being ran down the wall, or wrecked (put into the wall), is not discernible, then there is no sense in having any dialogue about it!

Lesson #7: If you want to play bumper cars... don't put yourself between the car you just intentionally hit and a wall.

It will be interesting to see it all for myself tomorrow. I look forward to watching the Vette finish second.

BS. I would be just as disappointed for The Lizards if they were wrecked. And be upset with Jan had he went that far! But as I said, I am not sure who did what yet.

Yes I do, it sounded like a hell of a race and should be a good watch!! Also a congratulations go out to de Ferran on the race win, Patrón Highcroft for P-1 championship. Fernandez and Diaz and team for a spectacular show and their P-2 championship win, hope that something comes through for them! The Lizards on their GT-2 Championship. The Snows for theirs and everyone else involved for bringing us a spectacular season of racing when so many poo pooed it!

Judgement can't be passed until some video shows up on the accident. Unfortunatly, Speed and Fox decided that the Barrett-Jackson Vegas auction was more important than the ALMS-considering that Speed might be the ALMS' exculsive broadcaster(but still, that does mean more live ALMS races and fewer interuptions of the Enduros, depending on scheduling).

But back to my point-we won't know until Speed shows the race later today, or if one misses that, they can watch the Speed Report after the race airs.

But I do agree that IMSA may've set a precident-Risi and FLM on the last lap at Sebring '07, and Panoz vs FLM late in the race at Sebring this year(granted, the Porsche there took itself out).

Granted, that's not a dangerous as NASCAR's restrictor plate yellow line precident(witness Carl Edwards' accident at Talledega this year), but if there is a precident set, expect a lot more torn up(relatively expensive) race cars.

At least this year ended up on a high note after a relatively ho-hum season-even the years where Champion Racing/ANSA were top dog with the R8 was more entertaining at times-at least 3 or usually 4 cars were capable of winning back then, instead of the two LMP1 Acuras and occasionally Dyson or Lowe's getting a shot in if something went wrong with the LMP1 Acuras.

Hopefully, IMSA may get some top level privateers in the LMP class, because the abscence of Audi(among others, namely cars that never showed up at all) has really hurt the LMP categories.

Oliver shares his thoughts. Admits that the Turn 2 pile up was a daft move by him, talks a bit about the contact with the mazda... and comments on the Mag/Berg finish.

Corvette racing memo

they seem to be content with the way things went down, not happy with what happend but it seems from the article they are not going to appeal, but its kind of waig, here read this extract

Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan reflected on the finish of the race and the conclusion of the team's five-race development program with the GT2 version of the Corvette C6.R: "Those last six laps were as exciting as I've seen in motor racing in a long time – two great teams, two great cars, two great drivers," Fehan said. "It's unfortunate it ended the way it did. I think we're going to review the videotapes and see what we can do to ascertain what went wrong there. I'm sure we'll be working with the sanctioning body to address it and put into place safeguards to make sure incidents like this won't happen again.

some more

"It was really good, hard racing," said Magnussen. "I didn't think I even had a chance after I had to give the position back. Going into the last corner I was too far away to make a proper attack, but Joerg parked the car. I didn't see that, so I slid up and hit him a little – he went sideways and I managed to get on the inside. It was a drag race up the hill, and I managed to get ahead of him. Then he turned me into the wall, and he kept turning in. Then I spun around the nose of his car."

The No. 45 Porsche was credited with a 1.037-second victory over the No. 3 Corvette C6.R as Corvette Racing scored its fifth podium finish in five races since moving to the GT2 category. The No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R of Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta finished 10th, 12 laps down to the leader after hard contact in a restart at the one-hour mark. The crew replaced the Corvette's damaged front bodywork and a lower control arm.

After qualifying first and third, the twin Corvettes were running one-two until the first round of pit stops during the race's second caution period.

"Jan and I were working the traffic really well and managed to open up a gap over the third-place Ferrari," said Gavin. "When we got to the first pit stop, the guys did a fantastic job and we got out in front of the sister car. Then on the restart, I came down the inside of the first turn and was trying to see if I could get ahead of the BMW. I went too far to the inside and got on the dirt. The BMW was squeezing me and I got on the brakes too late. I didn't want to hit the prototype ahead of me, so I then went even farther left onto the sand, and at that point I was just a passenger. I started to spin and started hitting people.

"It's embarrassing for me – I don’t think I make many mistakes, but I made a big one today," Gavin said. "I'm sorry for the crew – I think we had a car that was fast enough to win today. They've done a fantastic job all year, and this is not the way you want to repay them."
