2nd Friday practice session underway!
Car #34 was the Smoking Bandit in previous session .. Race Control monitoring it, but apparently only burning oil in the exhaust pipe and not spreading it on the track ..... Lot's of drivers complaining about #34 exhaust smoke issues - Patrizi, D'Alberto, Bright amongst them. Car #22 - Dumbrell complaining of throttle and possible fuel quality issues ..... Car #33 - Ritter - happy with the car so far |

Session has been red flagged .. details soon. #333 - Wall / Tander seems to be the culprit.
Car #888 Lowndes happy with car set up before red flag - putting in some reasonable laps. Car #17 - Johnson / Courtney also very happy with setup - talking of tweaking the braking a little, as there were a couple of issues braking into the Cutting. Session re-started. Car #9 - Van Gisbergen / Davison - Car running well other than some slight front end push into Reid Park. Car #7 - Kelly / Kelly - Generally not happy with car - complaining of understeer and suspension geometry issues. Practice Session over. |

Murphy was only a tenth off his 03 record at the second split but lost half a second or so on the run down the mountain. Seems to be some pace in the 51 car.
Given there is no weird wind/weather conditions this afternoon, I would expect Murph's record to get beaten. |

Word is that only a slightly missed gearchange between the Dipper & Forest Elbow stopped Murphy from lowering his record from '03. Both Skaife & Murph reporting car is going "Like A Rocket"... which is eerily like what Murphy was saying in the Spidey car in '03 ....
Car #17 looking particularly strong too - both Johnson & Courtney are very happy, with Courtney especially determined to see through his previous promises of lowering the '03 record, which is seemingly within reach for this team. Car #888 has a couple of tweaks, notably in slight front end suspension settings to try for Quali this afternoon which should put them within a whisker of that record .. car balance is very good and both drivers happy with it. Looking forward to qualifying this afternoon ... should be terrific. Hopefully can continue with updates then. Cheers all! |

Going to be a very exciting qualifying session with atleast 17, 888, 51, and 8 vying for the lap record. I would hazard a guess that #2 will nail their setup, they have gained truckloads of speed since yesterday.
Any word who will qualify 51? I'm guessing Murphy going off the times. Seems Skaife's job is setting up for the race. |

According to Mr Davison here in the Paddock Club, he reckons #2 had a blown tyre at the Chase with Mr Tander at the wheel, but also that the car still isnt 100%
Wingcam is interesting, if you like seeing 2/3 of the rear windscreen of the Jack Daniels car Mr Fisher has hurt the '06 Bathurst winner The boys frOm JV Crash seem to be helping repair it in the pit garage. Mrs Tander's crash wasnt huge, all just bolt on stuff... But they really need laps, the 2 pilots not looking as shiny as their pedigree may have suggested. Lots of engine cranes in pitlane.. Changing between practice and qualifying for some. If they change the engine now, if there is another change, the car may get a penalty |

They are only allowed to put the Race engine in the car from now till the warm-up. if they change it again the have to start from the pitlane.

My Favourite 08 moment was when Courtney/Besnard comeback drive at Bathurst. Courtney raced through to dominate the opening stint had 15 sec. gap to Lowndes who was in 2nd. In the 2nd stint a slowly deflating tyre (originally diagnosed as a damaged anti-roll bar) slowed Besnard's stint in Courtney's car allowing Whincup to assert dominance over the field rest of the race. On lap 160 S.Richards, fading badly on rear tyres was unable to stop Courtney move into 3rd place. |

Only bent... Back to the rear windscreen. It should be ok for qualifying, certainly there was lots of noise from there, and bodies thrown at the problem....

Amazing how the punters here are favouring Johnson and Courtney.
Given I've been "a tad critical" of Junior I'm still waiting for him to undo some of Courtney's good work. Anyway, I reckon Whincup/Lowndes will still be hard to beat... even though I'm hoping that speed and luck brings a Holden home in first place. |
