If FT5000 goes ahead, many components will be manufactured locally, including the tubs.

Carbon-fibre honeycomb sandwich is nothing new... There is no reason Australian firms would not have the expertise to design it properly, be it using empirical calculations, computational finite element analysis or a combination of both.

Designing one that it reinforced in the right way so as to protect the driver without making it as heavy as a steel tube frame tub is a VERY different thing, though. |

It's a big of an insult to Aussies to suggest they couldn't do it, especially when that assumption is based on absolutely nothing.
Given they can manufacture the tubs from scratch, they can also then understand the design process to arrive to the conclusion. |

Not saying Aussies in general can't do it, just saying it's shortsighted to talk like just any random designer/builder can. You've got to have access to people with the right skills, knowledge, and equipment... And hope they're not too busy with other things AND willing to work with you.

That way the design is available to everyone and will be supplied to the series as cheaply as possible by a number of manufacturers. Competitors can then bolt on the rest of the bits from whatever fits the rules. |

Why not build a carbon fibre Lola T332 tub?,and they could race with all the other F5000s that are running around.

So let's just pretend that they decided to join together to run one of the two designs....

So is this really a merger or has Lambden just folded his lot in with the other mob?
Will the final product still be what "Super5000" proposed with hand-me-down V8Supercar bits, and running as a mere support act at Supercars events? Or will any of Lambden's proposal, for example standalone events and a Tasman Series style calendar with races in NZ and Australia over summer survive? |

S5000 tub with the FT5000 running gear, is my guess.

The shame is the rear of the super5000 isn't even stressed unlike the ft5000 with a proper stressed rear end. Car will be a kot cheaper with ft5000 running gear at least.

Except the FT5000 engine would be at least 100 hp down on a Supercars engine, the Ft5000 chassis looks 100% better than the S5000 (except for the silly airbox). The Ft5000 chassis is a more modern looking design, something I think the Series needs (not retro).

Even with the FT5000 motor, they'd still be stupidly quick.

I reckon the mix will be FT5000 chassis, with Supercar engine and a 70/30 chance of using the Supercar transaxle. I can't see the Coyote getting the nod, even though it is the far more sensible option. Supercars were only interested in the open wheeler in the first place as a dumping ground for the V8 engines.
I am glad to see that ego's have seemingly been put aside by the two parties for the betterment of the sport, something that is far too uncommon in this day and age. |

There doesn't need to be a dumping ground for anything. There isn't a massive glut of engines. There are 3 tiers of Supercars that require them. The blocks and heads don't last forever, so there will always be demand for them.
