Kimi isn't 18 until August, so pretty sure that's what is holding that back. They'd need to change the rules there, he has enough superlicense points just is underage.

Maybe Mercedes can make a few front wings and chassis tubs under contract for Williams in exchange for the new pilot?

If "Snubbed" is equivalent to "Mercedes are courting Max Verstappen for a seat", then... yep.

Max was 17yrs and just over 5 months when he first "joined the grid" and qualified to start a GP (Australia 2015) for the then STR. He was 17 and a few days when he had his 3rd driver / Friday 1st practice debut with STR at Japan in 2014. (Max turned 17 on Sept 30th 2014, Japan P1 was October 3rd. However, he was actually 16 when he signed for the team in August 2014. Last edited by E.B; 15 May 2024 at 13:51. Reason: Added he was 16 when he was signed by Red Bull / STR |

The deal makes sense. The problem for Williams is that for season after season they have paired one reasonable driver (Russell and Albon) alongside another one who has completely failed to perform. So, I am interested in who they get in alongside him.
Antonelli might make sense if he has a good season in F2, if Williams are happy to be a feeder team. If Williams have grander plans, then there are plenty of current F1 drivers out of contract at the end of this season, but that would be a change of direction for the team. |

Makes sense. If it happens, then Williams will have two proper F1 drivers for the 1st time in ages.

It will be a funding decision to include a paid driver to replace a paying one...
Would Mr Bottas put up with losing his chassis to the other bloke so readily? |

I doubt it will happen again - I think it is hard to understand just how far behind the once great team had fallen -

But then Vowles has worked with Bottas at Mercedes, so he is fully aware of his strengths and weaknesses, what he is able to bring to the team, and what to expect from him, how he likes to work and how he can best be engaged. If they can build a car that is even close to the present Mercedes standard of competitiveness, then Albon and Bottas could have a very productive 2025/2026. |

If I were to look at current drivers who should not be in F1 they are...
1. Sargeant 2. Zhou 3. Stroll Sargeant and Zhou seem like nice guys, but I just think F1 was a step too high for them both. Stroll is another topic for another thread. I like Bottas. But it's hard to gauge his current performance because (at least for me) the 2024 Sauber just seems to be quite bad. If Bottas moves to Williams, and Williams continues to struggle (a good weekend for them is to not be in last place!), would this be the last place in F1 before Bottas also moves on? Richard |

Add K-Mag to the list too I suppose, but he has played a decent team game and nabbed that pole in Brazil |
